Krav Maga training?

LOL! yes the 1st clip alot of KM would look like that...not sure where they do the embarrassing high kick sparring drill from!

Yes I agree with Richard Demitri about the knife defences. I never really believed in most of the KM knife defences.

However what he says about how they punch, the guys I trained with in Israel punched like a boxing, not that vertical fist stuff. and again their training was quite hard core, and MMA baz rutten like, also as per the amount of living wrestling and judo sparring done. I also suspect they nicked a good chunk of BJJ too.

There is alot of bollox in KM, and there is certainly very good stuff too. It depends on who who train with and how they train.

I was told the Americans had water it down a bit, as house wives coming in to learn KM after seeing Jay Lo in her movie "Enough" did not like to get slapped about the place in training.

However I seen some footage recently of the American KM working out on pads Muay Thai style, and it looked very good. they have kickboxing, boxing and BJJ added in to the core KM stuff.

Krav Maga is a great name to use if your opening an MA school, as its a good seller of student memberships.

Personally I think the likes of Urban Combatives is much better in approach, simplicity, and lack of BS.

While my month training in Israel was an interesting experience, (did not get to see any of the country as I was trainining 6 days a week), I know if I had the choice I would rather a few days over in the UK training in Urban Combatives. !

Plus Israel is an awful place to visit, I found alot of people erring on the side of being Ignorant and Rude. Maybe it cause about 1 in every 3rd person you meet on the street is carrying a gun or assault rifle. 18 year old girls doing their army out buying Britney Spears CDs, with an M16 hanging off them..... ???!!!???

That dude is great. One or 2 too many curse words for a seminar (me mammy would be very upset to know I was watching that!) but definately gets the point across very well. Would have loved to hear the rest of the rant? I'ld say he went on forever.

I think Aidans a nice guy, he is one of Lee's apprentice instructors also so what he teaches would in fact be functional. Functional and easy to understand is all you need to know!

yes, i have been in contact with Aidan. Plus one of my friends who has alot of KM/RBSD experience has gone over there, and the reports are excellent.
She tells me there is plenty of real life sparring, plus as Jon says, he also got the combatives training.

    Hi Henry

I am the wrong man to answer on Muay Thai, as there is people on here will years of experience since MT started in Ireland, so they can give a better answer.

In short, MT brilliant system, punches, kicks, knees, elbows, clinch fighting, excellent training methods, nothing fancy, no BS. google it, there is tons of info on the web.

In the West, I think Dave Joyce who post on here on occassional has a gym in Galway.... lets see is there any more info from other posters?

I'm taking this class at the moment (it's the first martial arts thing I've ever done. :)) and it's been great so far, tomorrow evening will be my 6th lesson.

After this beginner's course is over I'll definitely be coming back for more, though I hope the more advanced stuff will feature a lot more 'bulletman'-style hard training. Though I need to work on my fitness, and I'm a newbie when it comes to the techniques, the main area I think I'm weak in is controlling fear/adrenaline and my aggressiveness/instincts when in a self defence situation.

Hey HenryB (thanks Gerry, hope training is going good!!), if you've never trained Thai before we get people to do a 10 class introductory course (usually twice a week, over 5 weeks) and if they're happy and wish to continue training they can immediately intergrate into a regular beginners class which is on twice per week. We'll be holding our next introductory course early January, if you need any further info you can PM me or give us a call on 087-6715549

i think this is the same for most people. what do you think would be the best training for becoming desentisized to the paralising effects adrenaline can have in a violent confrontation, or more accurately the lead up to a violent confrontation?

I've no idea.. but I guess dressing up in armour with someone else and smacking each other around the place while screaming abuse might be a good start. Or do you need to go to an S&M club for that? ;)
