Just got an email earlier from dabs.com stating that they now have a site dedicated to the Irish market. Dont know how their euro prices will stand up against other online stores or if there will be a problem with VAT as mentioned in another thread.

They've had the Irish site for some time now. Now they will charge VAT up front.

Went to check the shipping from the UK site but they have taken Ireland off of that. From what I remember it was something like £6.50 which works out cheaper than the €13.50. When I ordered it was shipped with GLS and was left with a neighbor....5 doors down! They didnt even leave anything in the door to let me know. Twas a laptop so just as well I have neighbors that I can trust.

There is no "issue" with VAT charges at the point of import buying from any company within the European Union. The "issue" is when you buy from _outside_ the EU (USA, HK, Jersey, etc.)

Generally within the EU you will be charged VAT by the seller at the rate charged in their country (e.g. from UK 17.5%, Germany 16%, etc.) However if the seller does over a certain volume of sales to Ireland they must register here and charge Irish VAT at 21% (as Dabs do and have done for some time.)

The main change here is that we will now have a convenient site listing euro prices with the Irish VAT already included, easier to see what you are paying up front (rather than having the price bumped up at the checkout.)

That was a surcharge for Ireland on top of their basic shipping price. I ordered from them recently and shipping was at least €13.50 if not slightly more (IIRC around £10.)

Yeah- sorry forgot that it was just the surcharge- the laptop was dear enough so didnt really look at the total- just remember seeing something on the UK site about it. Good prices anyway- it seems they use more than one courier company but hope they stop using GLS- have had other problems with them as well.

Their shipping charges are quite clear now as per the link in post#2 above
