Hey guys, I've a co-op interview tomorrow and I really don't want this job.. it's based in longford and other things about it conspire to make it really crap for me... I know I have to accept any offer the co-op office give me...

So here's my question... Does anybody have any tips for absolutely tanking this interview... I mean really make it clear to the interviewer that I don't want it...

Any help would be great... I just don't need the company telling the co-op office I told them to **** off in no uncertain terms...

Have you seen that scene in Trainspotting? Amphetamines are your best friend...

"Computers? Jays, I dunno if I'd know how to turn one on, someone else always types up my stuff for me"

Friend of mine used it, didn't get the job. Karma kicked in and he didn't get the job he later wanted. Reverse karma kicked in when he ended up being one of the few people who were jobless coming up to exam dates and he got one of the two plum international placements, Edinburgh in his case.

Being incompetent works best, you'll get the odd interviewer who'll accept that you just don't want it without going back to the co-op office but you run the risk that they'll tell tales (or rather, ask the co-op office why they're being asked to waste their time by being asked to interview people who don't want the job). Having said that, if they directly ask you if you'd be fine moving to Longford it's reasonable to say that you were really hoping for something a lot close to Limerick/home/wherever and while you'd go if you were offered, mentioning that you have to accept the first offer, you'd really really prefer somewhere else.

Perhaps slag Longford a bit, have a few jokes ready when you go in. If they ask 'why do you want this job' tell them you wanted to go abroad but did not get it. If they ask do you have any questions ask them about the area, whether or not there are many clubs or pubs and emphasise that you just love socialising.......and drugs

Its not too hard they generally ask what do you know about this company near the start of the interview, just say something like "Im not sure to be honest I did'nt get a chance to look up the company" That alone should knock you out of the running. Maybe give another bad answer to another question and you should be sorted and you wouldnt have gone so crazy that they'd report you to the CoOp office

The plot thickens.... There are 7 people going for 1 position.... I know for a fact that one of the lads isn't showing up and 2 others are planning on tanking the interview too... Again without going into too much detail this is the co-op job that literally nobody wants as it has almost nothing to do with our course. But thanks for suggestions guys. And on the drugs thing kernunos... Am, maybe not... he could be an undercover cop... stranger things and all that jazz ;)

just go to the co-op office/ career advisor and say that ur bird is pregnant and u want to stay in limerick (or wherever u prefer to go) and they'll bend over backwards to help u!!!! FACT. this has been done before:D

Why don't you tell them you don't want to go for the interview? It can be done. It's probably better not to waste everybody's time by messing up interviews!

Oh, you've probably already done the interview by now.

This happened me in 3rd yr UCC. There was a serious shortage of Comp Sci placement companies that year... the lec engies gussumped our jobs that year... anyway... the careers office started sending CVs to companies without telling people.. Mine was sent to Kerry Group cos im from Tralee. I went for the interview thinking I really didnt want to live at home so I went out of my way to give the worst interview possible. I kept laughing and made a joke about crying if a boss gave out to me. At the end of the 45min interview they turned around and told me I was great and that I had the job :( Plan didnt work. To make things even worse... 3 weeks before the job they turned around and said that their IT division was moved to Charleville of all places... so I ended up stuck there for 8 months. I refused to live there and ended up commutting from Tralee, 3 hours drive there and back.

So... karma... yeah... i wouldnt go out of my way to throw the interview.. seems that plan can backfire. :(

Peteee wouldn't be happy to hear that.

Strange thing about my Co-op interview was I seemed to have gotten the job before I had the interview! They didn't ask me any questions, just told me what I "will" be doing during my time there. So, tbh, if you have an alright QCA, you may have the job already and won't be able to throw the interview...
