MCE Remote in XP Pro? and other Beginners Questions!

I have a dell Dimension with Dell Media Experience, basically MCE without TV in, for PC's without MCE. I've since purchased a TV in Card (albeit a Basic one)

I was wondering if I bought the MS-MCE remote would it Work in XP Pro? I know the Dell/Cyberlink remote (Basically the Same) works fine, but doesn't support TV recording. There are other Software programmes I can use without updating to MCE (Which We also have somewhere) We have 4 PC's in the House in Different rooms networked.

I have the TV-in Working now and Recording in the Hauppage Software but I'd like to be able to do this without going from TV-PC-TV etc. And its a Crap Setup at the Moment as I don't have a Large monitor and am using the TV itself as a second Montor.

    Set up is... NTL STB >Composite< - >Tv-Card<->PC< - > S-Video Out < - > TV.
    It's all a bit messy!!

Any Suggestions?? The PC is a:
    Dell Dimension 3.2 Ghz P4,
    1024mb RAM,
    128mb Geforce FX.
    120gig HD,
    Hauppage WinPVR. TV Tuner.

I will be upgrading soon, a 3-400 Gig Hard Drive and Windows Vista in January (this may solve the MCE - remote problem)

if your upgrading to vista in january dont kill yourself now trying to get setup.
my advice would be to buy an mce compaitble tv card and the ms remote.

then when you install vista everything will run perfectly.
in the meantime if your tv card is mce compatible you could run one of the free media applications out there?

    Thanks Subway,

Vista is definately coming in. Hence the New HDD. I doubt my TV Card is Compatible with MCE as it won't work in Vista RC1. (so Far anyway) in Fact Vista keeps seeing it as A Web Cam (I'm not joking).

So a New TV Card might be the Answer? Will the MS remote work with an MCE Compatible TV Card?

Using Nero Home at the Moment, Seems to Work fine, But DME is easier to use and doesn't try and Take over the PC! However, its a Pain having to go over to the PC ever time I want to Pause/Rewind etc.

is your tv card on the mce hardware list?
if its certified for mce xp its certified for vista.
if not, a hauppauge 150 is about 60euro and well worth the upgrade.

an mce remote will only control software, not hardware.
some software is designed to work with, meedio, power dvd and of course, mce.
most tv card software uses strange interfaces that wont work with an mce remote.
in general, if you can control the software using the keyboard only, you can control it with the mce remote

Its a Very Basic one, so I Doubt it. €60 isn't a bad investment at all, I think I paid €40 or €50 for the one I have (a good while ago though) I only got it to try it out but months later realised the Benefit of PVR, (after getting NTL digital and not using the TV Card for Months) Now I'm struggling to get it all set up into a HCPC.

Someone mentioned one of those remotes as a Birthday present (Next week) so I might drop some PVR-150 hints into the Mix, (The Kit looks like a great present)

    now your thinking :)
word of advice tho, the mce remote that hauupauge ship is a low quality knock off of the ms one.
i think it costs about the same to get a hauppage mce-set as it does to get a normal 150 and a real mce remote.

id recommend going for the real microsoft one as its a great piece of kit
