    Hey all,
I'm planning on getting an 360 soon and was wondering if Live is any good. In order for me to hook up the xbox to my home network, I'll either need a wireless adapter (€€€), or a very long network cable.

I don't really play online so I won't really be using it for that. So I was wondering if it has any benefits at all, or can I happily live without it?

If you need to go wireless in order to connect to your router then you will need the official MS wireless adapter. But you could always use a long ethernet cable if that is possible and you don't want to shell out the extra cash just yet.

I bought a 360 in January and got on Live in September.

It makes a huge difference to the Xbox and I use my 360 a lot more now as a result. It's handy to download demos, xbox live arcade games, and of course online play.

I still have to explore online play fully, as I'm finding it hard to make time, but one of my friends regularly plays Ghost Recon and says it's amazing.

I've found it to be a total waste of time. I hardly ever use it.

Maybe if you were big into your online shooters you'd make more use of it perhaps.

I also don't enjoy playing with ill-manner american teenage pricks, which is something you come across a lot.

The downloading demos is a nice feature though... but can't you do that with just a silver membership?

I've only really started making use of my Live account in the past few as I've been playing Phantasy Star Universe.

But isn't that the whole point of the internet? :D

No... playing with your own prick is the main purpose of the internet.

Any wireless bridge will do, he doesnt need the official one!

Xbox live is good. There still arent many games worth playing online though. Escpeicially if you dont like shooters.

The only wireless adapter that can be connected to a USB port on the xbox is the official MS one. If you plug in an ethernet cable to the xbox then it does not then care if the cable then becomes wireless half way along by some other means.

How much would you be saving by not getting the official one anyway?

I got the official one recently and I think it works supremely well. There is no set up or configuration on it. It just slots neatly onto the back works straight away. It really should have been a feature built in by default in the console though.

I agree that the official one is excellent. Some people have wireless bridges etc from their xbox 1 laying about though.

Personally, without Live! my 360 would have see FAR less action. You get a free month of gold, so just run the cable to the 360 for a month and if you like it, consider a sub and a wireless nic, if you don't, clean up the cable.

You dont need the official wireless adapter. I use this one which i got for €70 and im happy with it.
    NETGEAR
As for online gameing its great. I know that there are some annoying players but when you get another decent player it can be good fun. Mainly shooting games at the minute but PGR3 and PES6 are good too

Seems a bit pointless. The official one is only €10 more and clips nicely onto the back of the console.

I think it opens up (almost) every game with longevity and more fun.
