A Pennys outlet is due to open early next year, and Longnecks nightclub was revamped and repopened. The roads are in a mess at the moment with the current laying of new pipes all around the town, this includes some road closures.

The roads are a DISASTER! Traffic is really bad and people are very cross and cranky so be warned, stop to let people out and they honk you, if you dont stop you get the finger, either way its not pleasant. Although they are meant to be stopping road works tomorrow for the christmas.... fingers crossed!

Pennys is due in Spring, its nearly built which is very exciting for the concerned shopper!

Quattro has its nightclub although the bar is better than the club, and your better off staying away from long necks on a saturday night.

Cant think of any other new and exciting things in Ballina.... nothing ever happens :(

Darko, you really lighten the place up.

That's why I love Dublin. In the first few weeks of moving to the big smoke, just down the road a bit a woman was burned to death in her car, meanwhile just over the river drug dealers were found with an MP5 in their house... then in the months following loads of shootings - it's great!

Really, Ballina and many apparently ****ty mid-size towns around the country are far better then many people think.

Compare it with Dublin's commuter belt – far larger towns but with less or no schools, playschools, shops/supermarkets, cinemas screens, parks, playgrounds, rivers, beaches etc etc.

Ballina might be further away from Dublin but there are higher populated commuter areas with fewer daily buses going to the city and no rail link to be seen. And people don’t often get stuck in the type of traffic that makes what should be ‘just down the road’ turn into hours.

Here's a list I made on another thread, making it surprised me...
