Thinking of becoming a primary teacher

I just have a few questions:

    1. I have a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from University. What is the normal starting salary for a primary school teacher and would this degree make a difference to my salary?

    2. I'm going to Oz in January until October approx. What would be the best time time to apply for primary Teaching in Mary Immaculate?

    3. I'm a 23 yr old male (will be 24 in Feb). Would I be entitled to a mature student grant for studying in Mary I as I'll prob be broke coming back from Oz?

    4. I am fluent in Irish. Would this definitely help my application?

Sorry for all the questions but I really haven't a clue what the procedure is.

    Any adv would be appreciated

Plenty of info here from the education.ie website. The deadline for applications for Mary I and the Dublin based colleges was Nov 3 seemingly. Applying in early-mid october 07 seems spot on.

You could also give hibernia a shout and discuss your options. They might interview you in January with a view to giving you a place on the october course. It'd be nice swanning around Australia knowing you had the course to start in october.

Being fluent in Irish is a big help, as you're asked to speak as Gaeilge in any post grad interview.

No problem. thanks for that. Do you know anything about the net starting salary for a primary school teacher with a 3rd level degree? And is it true that your salary increases by €1,000 every year? Cheers
