WOW! Thanks for informing us of this super cool deal :D

anyway to confirm what sort of vouchers they'll be?

Rather not find out they are the sort with insane limitations.

Cause if they are what you think (£10 vouchers) then I can see getting money off alot of stuff (like ZELDA!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,135 ✭✭✭fifth

Could be just those €2.50 off a controller or a game vouchers..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,373 ✭✭✭tw0nk

This is just gamestop justifying their over-pricing of the wii, loads of retailers do this as out of every 100 euro of vouchers, people on average use about 10 and they have to use it in the same shop.

It's only going to be that book of vouchers they give out where it's a load of "Get €3 more on the value of a trade-in" or "Get €4 off when you buy a game" or "Get €5 off when you spend €70 or more" or the like. You'll end up having to spend a huge amount to try and redeem them all.

They did this with the DS as well. I got a load of vouchers for 5 euros off if you spend over 50 euros. With the prices being cheaper online and the fact you can get 10% off in HMV with a games card and the 10% off with the loyalty card in Smyths on the week of release they are fairly useless.

i agree penguin, its rediculous, its all just a cover up of the price that gamestop are asking for it.

I got a bunch of these with my ds lite from Gamestop, back in the summer, and i've never used a single one. TwOnk is right, it's just to justilfy the price...

Might actually come in handy for once, though, cos i'll be getting a few extra bits, and maybe even a game or two on the day...

Yeah, and Smyths usually give a crapload of vouchers away with consoles as well (whch end up being useless if you have the loyalty card...)

gamestops vouchers are cut up into little bits like 5 euro off when you spend this much and 5 euro extra when you trade in and stuff. i admit they are crap but all the retailers throw in **** like that to dress bundles up. at the end of the day no retailer can sell the wii at more than the european price. they can however do whatever bundles they want. you dont have to buy them but 9 times outta ten you end up savin cash on stuff you'd already buy.:D

hutch, i beg to differ, you said , "no retailer can sell the wii at more than european price", thats completely untrue, theres a reason its called the RRP, recommended retail price, retailers can charge whatever they want, thus the price differences we are seeing among retailers.

i suppose there's not a chance in hell gamestop will offer a console trade in, like they did with the DS lite?

i'll have to find a new home for me GC so!

    funny your name is twonk...
yeah fair enough man i take the whole RRP thing on board but no retailer is gonna be stupid enough to whoop a crazy amount on top of the price. it is ultimately a good thing(if ya live near the city centre) that there is enough competition in the games retailers world for us to get a good price on our new shiny wii! they just have to out do one another to make their money...
it can only mean good things for us...:D

you sound like an old lady in a hairdressers and yes it is quite ironic your name is twonk.
show me anything that doesn't have an inflated price nwadays man?
    smokes,beer,your broadband?
in fairness to gamestop, they have a competitive pricing structure or so it seems.(anyone dissagree?)
have always shopped there, after sales service is excellent,i didnt even have a receipt for my stalled 360 and they delivered on warranty.
stop the hating man, obviously you should try grt the best price, but these guys are doing it since well back in the day(gamesworld) and the staff all appear to be honest gamers.
have used their vouchers loads in the past and used wisely can deliver nice discounts.
trade in your unwanted crap against their wares.

Balls. Gamestop have been Rip off merchants since they started (just like some other places I couldn't be bothered to mention). Gameworld was just as bad an the only reason to visit there was for the over priced second hand section and the hot blond who worked there.

    agree with retrogamer.
for example their ad where they say we trade ur games for cash its nonsense,
for the amount of cash they give u .u might as well keep them

Woahh wait a minute, I hate when this happens on boards, people contradict what they originally said or jump on the bandwagon and start posting about things without any fact. For example hutch originally said...
    hutch wrote:
at the end of the day no retailer can sell the wii at more than the european price.

I replied saying this is untrue and that the RRP was just recommended it doesnt stop retailers over charging. Then he said ...
    hutch wrote:

Now correct me if Im wrong but that pretty much means according to hutch that they will compete to offer lowest prices(and not: noone can go over the RRP, as he originally said). Also we havent seen any real price wars from the competition, this wont really happen untill the second batch of Wii's come out , and decent bundles appear.

As for bob dobalena, man, you have to take your head out of your ass, im sure it stinks down there...

    you said :

Thats great, so your saying everything at the moment is over priced in rip off ireland? good, I agree with you, but that doesnt mean we should just take it on the chin and be happy with it!! The very reason its over priced and companies get away with it is because of people like you, who just put up with it.

Its unfortunate that there isnt a plentiful amount of wii's to go around so we could all buy it in the cheapest place and force other retailers to charge only the RRP.

Strange, I heard Gamestops selling the Wii for €269, someone told me it was the RRP. Yet xtravision still haven't changed their price from €249..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 James Keating

I've seen the €100 free voucher thing they give. Its loads of €5 off if you spend over 59.99 on a new game, a few 3 off on over 49.99 and a few 3 extra when you trade in. Not very useful unless your buying 360 or ps3 games, I dont think it covers wii games (59.99) because it says on games over 59.99... not sure, anyway I got this with a ps2 today and I'm only assuming its the same one with a wii. and therrp is 249 but most shops have bumped it up to 270... greedy oppurtunists that they are naming no names *Cough*Smyths*Cough*

thats exactly what they are, I should know, I work there. I think this is false advertising, as it leads you to believe you are getting vouchers (like gift vouchers) but youre not really. sorry to burst your bubble.

I don't know if Gamestop should be condemned for giving vouchers together with the machine, the price of 269 was a pretty global one aside from one or two retailers, I mean, whats stopping you buying from Argos or Xtravision, HMV are charging the higher price too as are most retailers, wasn't the 360 the same, a bit higher here, or was it the DS, anyway get over it, Gamestop aren't putting a gun to your head and making you shop there and at least they aren't forcing the consumer to buy a bundle as Smyths are.
As as for the blonde who used to work in Gamesworld, a very nice girl she was too, I worked there at the time and had much laughs at customers agog at her, they aren't rip off merchants either, always found their prices reasonable enough.
