Plugged in hdd from another machine, need to open the registry

A windows 98 machine is riddled with viruses and spyware. Explorer crashes on startup. Task manager shows a million viruses running.

I took the hdd out and plugged it into my win2k machine and cleaned the viruses and spyware. Now I want to open the registry of this machine and check for badness in there too.

    How do I do this?

Trying to fix a messed up Windows 98 machine can be a hopeless endeavour, thanks to the bug-ridden core of Windows 98. I would advise you to just install a new copy of Windows 98 and be done with it. Or install Windows 2000 for better stability. Of course, Windows XP SP2 would be the best with its firewall. Install Windows Defender on it and it could be a nice bastion against spyware and malware. That is, if the machine is capable of handling the increased processing and memory requirements of Windows XP.

Anyway, for your needs, the following software might suffice but it's not free sadly:

    Hope this helps.

Don't forget that you need a license if you get another copy of windows, better just install 98 allover again
