I'm getting regular BSODs for the last few weeks. I ran chkdsk which told me there are bits of my harddrive that are knackered and can't be repaired. I also think its starting to sound a bit more grating/chuggish, but I could be imagining that. Before I run out and buy a new drive, are there any other components I should be checking up on?

Memory is known to cause BSODs from time to time, try running memtest.

Ruu is definetely right, memory seems to be the most common part of the system causing BSOD's. Would be good to replace your memory with another one (maybe could you get it from one of friends for some while, best option, software tests like to display results as correct in many cases I had before, problem remained until memory wasn't replaced).

I'd also try to temporarily replace your power supply.

Set BIOS settings as "BIOS default".

Check processors and graphic cards temperature.

Remove all dust from inside of the PC (if there is any, it may cause shorts on the motherboard or increase the temperature).

If any of listed above won't help then format your hard drive and reinstall operating system.

If it still won't help that will be something more, hmm... advanced? Good luck.

I ran the whole Dell diagnostics thing and the only tests that failed were HDD related. Oh well, at least I'm fairly certain of what it is now. Thanks guys.
