maximising insulation of cavity wall

whats the best way to insulate a 2 leaf cavity wall? most houses around here are using polystyrene sheets but surely in this day there is a better option. we have pretty much agreed pricing and all with our block layer but we are just curious about other methods of insulation before we go ahead.
