Not really, yesterdays game doesn't count towards these 'rankings'

Rankings don't mean a thing...It seems to be held that we're second best at the mo anyway... say we could beat most...jayz we even came close the ever arrogant all mighty kiwis during the summer...not close enough though!

Seams ridiculous to me , we annhilate a team made up of the combined best of 10th , 11th and 16th teams in world , with a bunch of reserves , and are dumped from 3rd to 5 th , when everyone knows we are 2nd best team in world .
How South Africa jumped ahead of us, and Italy are ranked below Fiji and Samoa after yesterday , is confusing to say the least.
The ranking must be defined by the same jokers who also made up the rules for the World Cup groups !

once you get to know the system then you'd know why, with England being given a 3 point headstart against South Africa then it's easy to see why a 14 point turnaround can boost their ranking. France merely consolidated and Australia with a huge win always looked like overtaking us.

we should put it right with a good 6N though.

You could consider the rankings as if we have " a game in hand " say. The other teams Played this w/e in qualifying games and the SH teams had the benefit of winning away when they did. Irelands wins up til yesterday came with a 3 pt home handicap and yesterdays game for nothing.
It is so tight between the 2nd 4 that a win for Ire yesterday in a qualifying game would have put them into 2nd.
This game in hand will materialise as we play the 6N and the SH teams get no test mathces in. We should be up there again after a few 6N games. especially if we win our 3 away games!

great I would say to be 5th, I know we like to think we have gotten rid of curse of favourite but it still lingers, every team has it. 5th spot is a nice position to be in going into the competions hopefully it will go up to the 2nd spot after

I like to think this current Irish team have got rid of this old problem , of never winning tough matches when favorites . I think the autumn series and Munsters Heineken win prooves, that these players -- o'driscoll, o;connell, in particular -- can win, regardless of being favorites or not , and in particular play rugby with no fear under all conditions!
