    Hi,

    I am looking to purchase a new monitor because i need alot better resolution (for Poker), do i need to update my graphices card as well?

    I am looking to get a monitor with a res of 1680 x 1050.

    My card at present is a nvidia geforce4 mx420

    If it's widescreen your after get one of these Samsung are generally decent all rounders.

    You wont need to upgrade the graphics card though I doubt the GF4-MX has a DVI output if you want the best picture quality from the display so you may want to consider a small upgrade to one that has (I'm assuming your graphics card is AGP based).

    AGP is the type of interface the graphics card uses to plug into the motherboard. It has been replaced by a newer interface called PCI-Express (PCI-e) but all older computers should have AGP slots on them & I'm pretty sure the PCI-e version of the GF-4MX was called the MX-4000.

    You can verify if you have an AGP slot by simply downloading CPU-Z & running it. Go to the mainboard tab and look at the bottom where is says graphics interface you should see AGP listed.
