Hello when I am shut downing the computer it can't shut down. I see only Windows is shutting down image. Mouse don't move, ctrl+alt+del don't work. Registry is all working. Not too many programs for windows not to shutdown. Could someone help for me?

P.S. Sony Vaio Laptop FE, 1gb ram, win-xp pro, 1.66 intel core duo.

    Thanks for your help.

It sounds like some program is preventing the computer from shutting down. The only thing I can think of is try what jayo2004 says and if that doesn't work, try firing up task manager, kill a process you are not familiar with, see if the computer will shut down cleanly.

Not exactly the smoothest of operations, but it might just work. :)

What do you mean by this?

I also have a Viao FE (same spec as you posted) and this happens quite a bit but not all the time. I've found though that a USB mouse will still respond then the trackpad and keyboard dont.

Have you enabled APM?? Anytime I have had problems with a pc/laptop 9 times out of ten once I enabled APM it sorted it!!

If you right click on your desktop and click properties, then select the Screensaver tab. Click the POWER button and you will find the option to enable APM somewhere in there!!

Hopefully this might do the job for you!!

turn on the laptop and boot into safe mode by pressing f8 on boot up. see will it shutdown when your in safe mode. if it shuts down reboot normally and go start run and type in msconfig, select diagnostic startup. Try that for now.

What antivirus are you using. I have seen it before where norton tries to scan floppy disc before shutting down. Are you using Norton Antivirus by any chance??

You are not really giving us anything to work with here.

What have you done, what did you see, anything in the Event Viewer logs?
