Hey I was just wondering, I built my parents a pretty small sff pc, but its still a lot larger than your average laptop.

Does anyone know if its at all possible to but a PC with all laptop components without the screen and keyboard? So it could be used just as PC unit? It would be a lot smaller and just as easy to use.

Hmm, interesting. Never seen it myself, though it's a fine idea. The advantage that a SFF PC has over laptop is usually bang for buck.

Do you know of anywhere that I could buy even the components of a laptop? I might keep an eye out for one with a broken screen on ebay. I might build one myself if no where offers them. I'm thinking the price would be about €200 cheaper without the screen and keyboard included, plus it would be smaller still without them.

HardOCP ran an article a while back about DIY notebooks but it was an experimental offering from Asus I think and nothing seems to have come it though you should probably double check that.

If the footprint is what you want to lower the closest thing which isn't a notebook I can think of is an ITX system the case even makes use of laptop components. You can go even smaller with one of these.

The Mac Mini is also a good choice if cost weren't a factor considering you can run OSX & Windows on them now.

Maybe a second hand laptop with a broken screen and take off the lid ?

PC 104 is even smaller, but not doesn't give much bang for your buck

or perhaps a modded games console if they don't need anything other than USB ports
