    Hi all,

Does anyone know of any good Christmas albums? Ones with all the favourite christmas songs that would be on the radio, and that gets everyone in the christmas spirit?

Before all the smart answers come your way, I'll give you the serious one. Most of the albums that you can buy for Christmas are pretty crap because not all record companies will have the rights to feature all the main hits. This leads to some trouble padding out a double album you are forced to listen to crap from Bon Jovi and crooners you never heard of before you get to that shakin stevens track. Best bet, download all your favourites and make your own compilation of all the best Xmas tunes.

The Best Christmas Album In The World Ever! does exactly what it says on the tin and has been a favourite in the Pighead household over the past couple of years.

All the classics are there and I don't know if its the seasonal goodwill or the sherry trifle but even Chris DeBurghs effort makes us sway. Heres the track listing. All original artists apart from the last song(A cover of Whams Last Christmas)

1 Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John & Yoko
    2. Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney
    3. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard
    4. Merry Christmas Everybody - Slade
    5. Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid
    6. I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake
    7. A Spaceman Came Travelling - Chris De Burgh
    8. The Power Of Love - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
    9. Angels - Robbie Williams
    10. Baby, It's Cold Outside - Tom Jones with Cerys from Catatonia
See all 20 tracks on this disc
    Disc: 2
    1. White Christmas - Bing Crosby
    2. The Christmas Song - Nat 'King' Cole
    3. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow - Dean Martin
    4. Mary's Boy Child - Matt Monro
    5. Mistletoe and Wine - Cliff Richard

Now Christmas is on CDWOW for 8.99 (use one of the vouchers in Bargain Alerts for cheaper) if you want a cheapo CD or make your own as suggested.

    bumpedy bump!

For pure Christmas songs it has to be A Christmas Gift For You from Phil Spector

    f62677roskd.jpg

The sound of Christmas and Wall of Sound rolled into one. This never gets old.

Seconded, best Christmas album ever. I've just been blowing the dust off it in the last few days in preparation for this year's onslaught.

    Alternatively, there's this. :D

Yeah this doesn't make any sense to me either. It's just not a Christmas song.

Indeed not. However it was released as a single in December. The Power Of Love makes even less sense for inclusion as it came out in November.

Its was written by Guy Chambers on Christmas day about feelings he had for his girl the previous Christmas Day, it was released at Christmas and theres snow in the video. To me that makes this song the most Christmasy of the lot.

But it did make number one in December and was only pipped at the post for Xmas number one by the original Band Aid. The video too was completely about Xmas.

I have the original Best Christmas Album in the World Ever at home and there are a few differences between it and the track listings listed above. Seems they made a few changes a few years ago. Must root it out and post the tracks. Good album but I agree with those that have said Phil Spectors album is the best.

yes but the video had all that mary/joseph blather going on; the intention was that it would be seen as a christmas song.

i would like to third the notion of the Phil Spector album being necessary for any christmas shindig; i should point out that myself and another boardster are pretty convinced that you are ALL ALLOWED to walk out of HMV etc with a copy of said album under your arm without paying for it. If you're stopped, the logic goes, you can say that it is a christmas gift from Phil Spector and you're just taking it home...

however, if you're forced to pay for it, the sound of 'Sleighride' and 'Christmas - Baby please come home' should cheer you up...

In fairness, they did graft a superfluous nativity video on the Power Of Love :D

if you listen to the lyrics it seems to come from a spiritual standpoint
A force from above, the power of love, the christians do teach that "God loved the world so much he gave his only son" could be a tie in with that.
    the power of love
    A force from above
    Cleaning my soul
    Flame on burn desire
    Love with tongues of fire
    Purge the soul
    Make love your goal
