Snapped accelerator cable...

Had an incident in the spider on Saturday...

Driving though a large junction (White's Cross on the N11) the accelerator went flat to the floor with no tension. Just about made it across the dual carriageway before I had to roll up onto a cycle lane. Accelerator pedal sitting flat on the floor doing nothing.

So basically the cable connecting the pedal to the carbs snapped. So simple yet so effective. Needless to say this was my only option...

What I want to know is do I need to go and order a specialised cable, or can I just use any type of metal cable such as you might find on a bike, lawnmower etc. to fix this myself? The cable is only about 12" in length.

Also is there some trick to "knotting" the end of the cable once its treaded through the gaps?

    CHEERS for any thoughts. :)

As it happened I didn't have shoelaces (or panty hose) -and my toolbox was also sitting at home in the shed.

I could have maybe rung a mate, but I figured I have AA credits left for 2006 and they have a depot 5 mins away.

You drive an old Fiat and you leave the toolbox in the shed?
I usually have half the shed in the car:D

I usually do - but I was on the way to the driving range and needed the room for my golf sticks! :D
