Two More GJP 1K Hands

    What's the thinking on these?

    Hand 1:

I am in mid position with 2c2s and approx 30k. My opponent in this hand moved to the table about 10 mins earlier and I have no information about him other than I don't really remember him playing any of his first few hands. I have not played with him before. This is at the end of the 4th level, so 150/300.

I limp with my 22, and the BB checks and there are 4 to a flop of 2h4s5h.

Checked to me and I bet 700. BB raises me to 2k. I call. Comments?

Turn is 8s. BB bets 3400, I call after a bit of a think.

River is Ad, so final board reads 2h4s5h8sAd, so ugly enough. BB goes all in for 6k. I call. I think I played this hand as well as I could on a draw heavy board but I would like comments if anyone disagrees.

    Hand 2:

First hand of day 2. There has been a seat redraw and I have an entirely new table with one exception, and he is not involved in this hand.

Blinds 500/1000. I am in seat six, button is on nine. Folded to me and I (30,400) open to 3300 with JJ. Player to my left with ~45k calls, folded to SB with ~85k who makes it 12k. Folded to me. I?

SB is an English guy who I believe played in the 4 nations heads up recently, but other than not being sure about the only thing I might no about him I have no information. The guy to my left I have never seen before either.

    All comments welcome please.

Hand 1 - tough, you have very little option here, I'm guessing your behind or he had top pair or 2 pair and thought it was good. Really depends how average this player was, but I would be calling, but not liking it.

    Hand 2

I'm guessing this is the claimer, he's a top player, but a little over aggressive, he raises a lot out of his blinds with raises into him and this stinks of a squeeze play, I've seen him do this a lot and than fold to a allin, ask Scotty about it in the earlier hand he posted with the AA hand.

I would be calling here, as I would have him on AQ/AK and maybe a medium pair, after the flop I would re-access, but I wouldn't want to push without seen the flop. A fold is not the worst move here and wait for a better opportunity, but with this player, I think I would be calling. You'll also have position after the flop, which is very important, but he'll bet any flop heavy here.

This is the first hand I have ever played against the guy, and I think I might know he was in one of the headsup teams, but I am far from sure. From my perspective I don't know much about the guy.

Yeh fair enough, with no info on this guy in your eyes and a raise and a call and than a reraise, you cant be ahead or hope to end up ahead, so its really a easy fold, but me knowing this player, I would have act different. but its easy to say that here instead of doing it at the table.

    Hand 1:

On the turn when you call there is 12k in pot and he has 6k behind so when he pushes on river which is inevitable imo it will be 6k call into the 18k pot. I rather an all in raise on the turn giving him a decision to make as you said he may have been drawing with that board

    Hand 1:
How much thought did you give a re-raise on the flop?

Not that much to be honest, as with a reraise here I am really telegraphing the strength of my hand at this point. If he was on a draw or had 2 pair then by reraising I would have given him the chance to get away from it. If he had the straight made, or if the flush hit, I also wanted the opportunity to allow myself to get away from it if the board didn't pair.

    Hand 1:
we discussed this on the day i believe.

    Hand2:
i dont think he would squeez out of position not knowing anything about you.
even though his big stack allows him to do this with a wide range i would think he at least has AK here.
though spot really.if it was HU i would say call with position but here i think i would lean towards a fold.

1 I would shove the turn
2 If what ollie says about his squeeze frequency is right I would shove, against an unknown I think I would fold

Straight made on both streets but still did not get away.
Logic good in cash game but in tournie on straight/flush board maybe good to take it down on the flop and move on.

    Evaluate doesn't mean fold.......

"get away from it" I think means fold.
Can't see word 'Evaluate' anywhere in post.
No need to get snappy if you don't like what you are hearing.

Must be something in back of your mind re. flop play if you specifically ask for comments on this street.

UL if villian hit which I'm guessing he/she did.

    From OP:

Checked to me and I bet 700. BB raises me to 2k. I call. Comments?

Hand 1: You must fold or shove the turn. Calling is bad. Also, I probably 3-bet the flop as there are shedloads of turn cards you don't want to see.

Hand 2: Against an unknown I'm folding

In 1 I'd raise the flop or turn. You say you played it as well as you could on a draw heavy board? I don't understand that logic. Flat calling to the river is IMHO the worst way to play it. The A on the river completes a straight for any pair and straight draw combo (or similar) and you still call the push...

    In 2 I fold without a read.

I like the first one, but getting it in on the turn might be better with his stack size. Probably doesn't make much difference.

The second one is tricky, especially with no info. Calling isn't great as it's a third of your stack, and you'd practically be playing for set value. Push or fold, I suppose, and I'm leaning towards folding. I don't think pushing is profitable here.

Seeing as this thread is at risk of getting lost, how did these hands play out, Dom?

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

    Nearly forgot about this.

Hand 1. As I said I called, and he showed Ah6h so mhig, and in the second one I folded. I asked him later what he had and he said it was a raggy A......
