My mam likes getting me books for christmas. A poker book is perfect.
I've gotten a few from the local library ecently, most weren't the best. Either general beginners books or limit cash games books.

So i. kinda leaning towards a no limit tourney book. And I am pretty much set on Harrington on Hold'em ( unless i get conflicting advice here). so now i have to chose which one. Am I right in my think that HoH 1 is aimed at tourney early stages. HoH 2: Endgame is based on final stages, and the workbook isn't the best.
I'm trying to decide between Hoh 1 or 2. I'd like to improve both stages equally. I currently play tight early on, and survive to later stages, but tight play means that i often have average chip stack.

opinions from people who have one (or both) of the harrington books.

I've read 1&2 and they're both excellent imho. Tell your mam you want both!! atho they can be hard to find in books shops so tell her to get her lazer card ready for amazon too most likely!! I think you might be missing out on a lot of the theory if you go straight to version deux

I had both. Brought HOH II on hols and left it on the plane last week (DOH!)

They were effectively the first two books I bought (you can get a special offer on amazon if you buy both).

You are right about the content - HOH I deals more with playing your cards while HOH II deals more with playing players and situations.

Both books improved my game as a beginner - both easy reads with simple concepts well explained. In fact, I was just finishing HOH II at the same time as playing the 3.5k Tribecca freezout (for the first time) and came 3rd! As I played I used some of the concepts and found that very effective.

Try and wrangle both of them :D

I have a feeling she'll get both, But only want to ask for one ;)
As for being hard to find, she uses play/cdwow/amazon alot so shouldn't be too hard.
I suppose ill plan on getting both eventually, so might as well start at the beginning. HoH1

If you have been playing a while and ahve a good grasp of the basics you will have pretty much covered HOH 1.

If its a choice between the 2 then go for HOH 2. Best solution is to get both of course.
