I was thinking of getting the TV in the father in laws bedroom set up for viewing Sky channels. He has the Sky installed and I dont think he would be keen on having a lead from the digibox in the sitting room down to the bedroom. The idea would be that he could watch the Sky from the comfort of his bed at night without having to go to a different room to change channels.

Does the magic eye do this?

I also seen this advertised today. Would this do the job or are there still cables involved.

Any advice would be much appreciated

That video sender in the link should work, as long as there aren't too many walls in between which would cause too much loss of signal.

I had one of those installed but as a neighbour also had it, channels would change at random so I had to go for the wired option with the sky eye (TVlink) which is now problem free. The "eye" allows you to change the digibox channels from the second location.

    yes.
Either will work. The Lidl box also in Argos, Maplin etc too but can have problems of interfeence from WiFi or other 2.4GHz analogue gear. The Magic eye uses cable and RF modulator, so is not as good as a good video sender signal and is only mono.

    Thanks lads.

    watty, whats an RF modulator?

Any idea how much the sky eye costs

The thing inside a a SkyDigibox or VHS that lets you watch a poorer picture with mono sound via the TV aerial socket, than with direct SCART connection in stereo.

The Sky eye costs around 15 to 20 eur.

I have an Aldi video sender hooked into my system - the sky box (freeview) is routed through the dvd recorder, and the sender feeds off the dvd recorder sending the signal from both upstairs to the bedroom. The sender comes with little gizmos which self adhere to the front of the sky box and the dvd recorder and they relay the remote control signals from upstairs - giving full control of both. There's a wireless phone and wi-fi in the house and the video sender works flawlessly, really impressive. If you wave your arms about near the sender (or receiver) it catches some interference, understandably.

I was sceptical of these before trying one out, a mate of mine was unable to get his to work, despite following the instructions (and my advice over the phone.........) so I took it off him to test it - I was instantly converted - deadly piece of kit.

So just to get this right - the video signal sender that I linked to should probably work OK and is cable free. On the other hand the sky eye will need a cable. Hope I've got that right.

Im using a cheap (€59) one I got in Argos and it works fine, except I think the picture in the 2nd room is darker, with stronger colour. Is this because the Video sender is just a lower quailty? at the moment I dont use it that much so its alright.

One other thing, I have my DVD recorder connected to the scart adapter that came with it, and havent got 100% perfect picture in the DVD. If I plug out the scart it is perfect. But then I have no 2nd room! Again wondering is it the scart adapter (there are 3, i think, scarts connected to/through it). Or the quality of the scart leads I got with the Sender....??

Don't want to hijax the thread but am just wondering at the price you should pay to supply and fit a magic eye. We have tv with second sky box in the bedroom and want to also get a signal in the kitchen on our small portable (cancelling NTL now UK programmes on C4 are available). Someone came to fix our sky box today and he quoted me €120 to do this. Yet looking at the retail price there seems a big difference - is it complicated to install yourself or is €120 a fair price for this work? Thanks and apologies again for butting in on the thread!

If you can run ct100 yourself then this is to way to go, most of the cost is made up of labour.
