Got €1000 in my Pocket... Need Help Spending It

Ok, guys heres the deal, i've been a very good boy this year and i'd decided i was going to blow a grand on some gear (thats €1000 yo yo's or bout $1250 US dollars).
    I wish i had GAS but i don't. I need some inspiration.

Basically i'd like to get a decent FRFR amp for the GT-8, maybe a guitar and a few other little bits and pieces.

I was thinkin of this little baby for the amp

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/behringer_k3000fx.htm

and maybe this for the guitar....

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/jackson_dkmg_bf_egitarre_dinkymg.htm

Anyway i was just wondering how you guys would spend the grand. The guitar isn't totally essential and i would be open to suggestions for purchasing other gear. I might get one of those GI100 boxs that everyone is raving about.

So what would you guys do? I'm sure you'll be able to help me spend my money.

    Thanks,
    JHet

just wondering why your looking at a keyboard amp? A tube amp would be better for a guitar, no?

It might help if you listed what you already had, also the styles of music that you play or are interested in. You may have noticed this amp in the adverts section:
    http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=6859&cat=16
Leaves more than half your budget for a guitar for you're not even sure you need.

You can get that amp new for €540 delivered from gak.co.uk

I'd say it's a pretty decent amp as well. You could get a nice lite ash strat/tele to go with it for about 1000 overall. Depends again though what kind of music you want to play. If you want to play heavy metal then a tele wouldnt be the ideal guitar

The reason he's looking at a keyboard amp (as he kinda stated in his original post) is that he's looking for a full range amp. Guitar amps are tuned to specific ranges and the GT-8 sounds fantastic through a full range system.

As for spending a grand, get your amp and have a look at Ishibashi's Ubox. Link is in the Resource Sticky.

Thank you sir. Guitar amps are indeed tuned to compliment the given preamp that they go with. The idea is to use a FRFR(Full Range, Flat Response) rig that doesn't color the inherent tone of the preamps built into the GT-8. The GT-8 can often sound terrible with a normal guitar cab because of this coloration. You could of course use the amps preamp and just use the GT for effects but then you loose all those wonderful tones.

As far as music is concerned, i play mostly heavy metal so a guitar with humbuckers is a must, preferably EMG's. i also like Locking tremolos.

I have a coulpe combo amps, a Spider II 30w and a Crate and 2 cheap jap made guitars (ibanez style).

I've been looking at the Atomic Amps and they seem to fit what i want to do perfectly plus they have tubes..... nice  but the ones with any balls seem a bit pricey.

I'm thinking that you might be better off investing in some good studio monitors for the GT-8, unless you're playing live.

I'd hold off on any guitars though. Save the money for when you really do have GAS, because then you'll really wish you had the cash.

I was lucky enough to pick up a Roland JC-120 today second hand so got a good price on it. Pedals sound fantastic through it as its one of the cleanest amps you'll find. Its like a mini PA. If you could find one second hand then I think you'll be really impressed how the gt8 sounds through it. Also its LOUD...

    http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=249

Have a look there and click the video section. Also acoustic guitars/vocals sound beautiful through it

How much you pay for it? I'd love a JC for my clean sound...

    €560

I dont think I've ever been as happy with an amp. It handles both my acoustic and electric with amazing sound (I reckon a bass or keyboard would sound equally good). The built in distortion knob is a waste since the distortion is pretty much non existent. But when you put a pedal in front of it. Wow. You get such a good sound. Nothing affects the sound of the effect. You hear exactly how your guitar and the effect sound. The cleans are amazing. Better than fender cleans and the chorus is really nice. My other amp is a Roland AC-60 stereo chorus amp which is an amazing acoustic amp. The ac-60 has some truly amazing chorus sounds and the jc-120 is just like a bigger more powerful version which I wanted for my electric. The ac-60 speakers are too small to handle the distortion from my pedals. Anyway, if you see one going second hand, i'd highly recommend at least trying them. I'm just gonna use my effects now to get the sound I want from my electric and there's not many better amps to run effects through than this

Excellent deal. I really want one for clean sounds, A/B it with a splitter box and my JCM800.

    "Better than fender cleans "
they are great at clean stuff alright but i can't agree with that,i've heard a fender super reverb mop the floor with a Jc 120

Probably right but I still reckon its better than the majority of fender factory amps ( Considering the price/performance ratio) I've only played the deville and deluxe. Better than those two anyway

I own the guitar the Op mentioned in his first post. Very nice guitar but you'll probably get if cheaper from www.gak.co.uk or www.soundslive.co.uk
Make sure the one you get is the upgrade version, they changed the pickups and removed the 20db 'afterburner' feature a while back.
The neck is skinny and quite wide so be prepared for that. My guitar before that was a tele copy and I took a while to adjust.

Thanks man. I think the thread got slightly hijacked there LOL. They are bit cheaper alright. Cheers. Might be the way to go,

Uuuu, thats nice. How does it work out ordering from Japan, taxes, delivery time, quality issues etc?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Email the web-shop web-shop@ishibashi.co.jp
They'll tell you how to order
Taxes are about 25% of the guitar and shipping
Delivery time is about a week
Quality issues? Non existant. They will tell you exactly what is wrong with the guitar if anything.

Bare in mind I can only speak for Ishibashi.

Thanks Feylya. You just gave me another way to get GAS.:D
