Well I replied to the op without reading down (as I had just been in maplins). So not sure why you need to repeat yourself.

    ebay.com have 320GB for 80 euros, or 116 euros (ebay.ie)

PC Worlds 320GB is a Seagate, they also have a Freecom 400GB for €160. Works out at about 5cent more per GB with the 400GB model, and it's fanless.

I got the 320gb 129euro Seagate in PC world last week. I presume its 2 160gb hard disks sandwiched into the one case. Its heavy but its quiet and it has given me no problems at all since buying it.

You can get up to 750GB single drives these days.

Just because you don't need it, doesn't mean other people don't. Raw Video, Photos RAW, Sound editing, graphics, lossless music collections, lots of reasons.

im only gonna say this once.. DO NOT BUY THE MYBOOK.
I bought one and got a month out of it before it stopped working and lost my years collection of stuff...
it absolutely sucks and it wasnt just me that had the problem.. There is endless amounts of customer experiences in which the product just stopped working after like a month which can be found by googling it.
i think its a production fault or something.

I have 2 of them and no problems for the last few months, and I would buy one again. Shame on you for not backing up your data. :) The majority of reviews on the My Books that I have looked on newegg.com give the thumbs up.

i backed up my data but the backed up hard drive didnt want to work either..
    just google the harddrive
western digital my book stopped working or something like that and u will see what i mean

IMO these fanless external drives should only be turned on while doing a backup, then turned off. They get too hot otherwise. Modern drives run hot and need some airflow to be reliable IMO. Also I don't think its enough to have one backup. I have a weekly/fortnightly backup then a longer backup thats done every few months or so, and stored away from the PC. Both on external HD's. I also put the really important stuff out to a DVD every few months aswell.

I had already checked the website but they only have standard external hardrives. Zod mentioned a USB2 chasis and a (seperate) 320BG Hard drive - I want to put it internally in my PC but have the enclosure if I want to take it with me the off time.

I doubt thats what he meant. Never seen them doing a bare chassis. Try Peats, Maplins or Komplett for that. Why would you bother putting it in and out of the PC? The whole point of the external box is that you don't have to bother with that hassle. Ifs that all you want just buy a SATA/IDE to USB cable.

Just go to Max Burns and get a LaCie 250GB for €120, they are under the Baileys sign on Bachelors Walk/Corner of O'Connell Street.

Good make, can buy it off the shelf and its a nice size.
