    Hello

I wanted to copy a dvd and I got a 5 pack of TDK DVD-R 1-16x SPEED 4.7GB Single Sided discs.

I copied the DVD and then when I put the blank disc in the computer didnt recognize it at all. Can anyone help me, is it because its 1-16x speed or something, what a waste of money, should I open up another to try out? I not sure what type of dvd drive I have, but it has a dvd rw, as Ive copied dvds before. Anyway any help would be great, I hope this is not too much of a stupid question.
    Thanks

Is your drive a DVD+R only model? Go into device manager and tell us what make and model it sees there.

    It is a _NEC DVD+RW ND1100A
Im pretty sure copied dvds on it before

just check options on record now, and it has options for video discs to be 2x, 4x or max, im presuming 4x is max? Anyway does this mean the drive only runs up to 4x or can I use another program? Also I thought the 1-16x meant its speed is from 1 to 16?:P

Your problem isn't that the DVD speed is 1-16x, that wouldn't stop you burning! The problem is that your DVD burner can only deal with DVD+RW, not the DVD-RW which you have bought - these are two different formats and not every DVD burner is compatible with both. Go buy some DVD+R discs and burn to your hearts content :D

One more question before I buy a few of these dvd + r discs, why does my computer recognise a dvd r with media on it and not a blank dvd r ????

also, any preferable speed to get for dvd + rs?

Precisely because it has media on it. It won't recognise blank DVD-Rs because your player can't write to them.

i have a symphonic SR90VE. i bought TDK DVD-R 1-16x discs because it said the dvd player could only read DVD-R discs. i have used other dvd-r discs on this player before and they worked. Doesnt 1-16x mean that it can be 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, etc? if not then what does is mean? if yes, then how do i change the speed to a speed the speed that my dvd player wants? i dont know much about this. thankyou

1x-16x refers to the speed that you can burn the discs at, i.e. it'll burn them at some speed between 1x and 16x, depending how fast your drive is. It doesn't have any impact on playing back the disc once it's been burned.

If your burner only burns up to a speed of 4x then thats all you are going to get, regardless of speed rating on the disk itself. Get some cheaper disks that are rated at a slower speed, I think you can get 8x disks, which will be cheaper... alternatively get a new burner, you must have to wait like 30 minutes to burn a full dvd  DVD burners go up for sale on adverts.ie all the time for next to nothing so keep an eye out.
