Do these operate on a rechargable battery or do they need to be plugged into a wall socket all the time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 320 ✭✭esquier

    Guys,

As mentioned above, I bought one from pixmania. Its a LCD display, just had a quick go of it and the picture is crap. Really really bad. If I reduce the resolution of the pics will it imrpove or is this just the standard I should expect? Havent got time to really play around with it at the moment but Im worried!

guy in the office here made one himself from a very old broken laptop and it looks fantastic.

tutorials up on the web on how to do it....too much work involved for me but the end result is class.

its not too easy...no real computer skills required, just know what NOT to move.

as for the resolution, possibly resizing to the res of the screen could improve the image slightly, but tbh thats less than a megapixel res...old cam phone quality

PC World have a Philips model for 219 which seems to have excellent resolution , they also have one for 159 but the screen (setup menu) quality looks like the cheaper portable DVD players.

Are those digi frames still in Dunnes? Anyone have a chance to see what resolution they are?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 320 ✭✭esquier

I had a look at them this morning but there`s no res marked on the box, unlike
others these have a clock and calender but I suppose the res is the most important thing.

Aldi have one coming up on Th. 21/12:
    http://aldi.ie/special_buys/product_512.html

    * 8" frame with print like quality image
    * Supports card formats: CFI, CFII, SD, MMC, MS, SM and XD
    * Image options: Full screen, thumbnail and slide show
    * Adjust effects including photo rotate, zoom, slide transition and duration
    * Play music and video clips. Supports file formats: JPEG, BMP, MPEG4
    * Includes AV cable to transfer images to your TV (compatible with most TVs), built in speakers, removable single stand wall mount capability with remote control and AV adaptor

No mention of resolution. I'm guessing that it's this model:
    http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Spectrum-NV-800-8-Inch-Picture/dp/B000GCARDM/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_2_txt/102-2875874-9231354
In which case it will have 640x480 resolution.

I had a look at the other photo frame in Dunnes and wasn't impressed - quite apart from resolution (nowhere to be found) it was too ugly for public viewing anyway.
