Bassist for about 7 years and used to play some piano / keyboard, now am looking to have another go - nothing serious, so I picked up a Yamaha psr-175 from thomann, made good use of my ten euro voucher ;)

Just wondering what would be the best way to interface with a pc?

I've looked around and only found the official ''yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface for PC'' and a cheaper alternative ''M-Audio USB UNO 1 in & 1 Out USB Bus Powered MIDI Interface''.

Safe bet to go for the cheaper one? I'm using a laptop and haven't a clue whether the port at the back is suitable for midi so am going the USB route.

Any cheaper options are appreciated as I'm not looking to spend a whole ton on just playing around.

    Cheers.

They both do the *exact* same thing, excepting that the m-audio one probably has better driver support, so I'd go for that one. If you're on a laptop then I'm 99% certain you don't have a MIDI port at the back, as very very few (if any) ever came with built in midi.

Great that's exactly what I wanted to know, cheers jimi_t!
