In fairness I don't think Brand New are as 'emo' as My Chemcial Romance or other bands of a similar nature, they are a lot more creative, especially on their new record. Should be a good gig, any idea when the tickets go on sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

that's because my chemical romance aren't emo.

Ah don't call them that! I mean they might be but it just sounds so degrading :( They're not emo either though...not anymore anyway

Nice price. No word on support yet. A good support band or two would make this a top night. Have never been to Tripod. Is it what used to be the Redbox?

Same place, different layout inside, It looks like a mini Vicar St when you're inside, great venue tho! Love how the bar at the back has a full mirror behind it so you can still see the stage :D

I desperately want to go to this, although I fear it will still be over 18's. =\

Class. going if i can get a ticket as they'll pretty much sellout straight away. better not be strict on ID.
    anyone know if they are?

Tripod is the flagship of POD and is primarily a niteclub so over 18s ID will be in force!

Got a reply from Pod about the age situation and it's all ages
Brand New will be all ages downstairs, and over 18s upstairs.

Both tickets are the same price, but obviously you will have to be over 18 to gain entry to the upstairs balcony and regular bar.

    Spread the word!

Deadly. It's about time more venues/promoters started to do this kind of thing.

Hmmm, I dunno, I like my over 18s gigs where the bar is easily accessable but I understand that they'd miss out on selling more tickets if they made this only over 18s.

And always expect good planning and prices from Pod thumbs_up_emoticon.gif

While I also like easily an easily accessible bar, I find that it's a little selfish to choose that over some people not being alowed in at all just because they're under a certain age. When I was under 18 it was long enough ago that you could get in pretty much anywhere with a crappy fake ID. I know how pissed off I'd be if I was under 18 now and had to put up with the **** that goes on these days. I'd say the best thing for it is have the balcony for under 18s whereever possible, rather than the other way 'round with a bar on the balcony.

Either way, have only ever been to one gig here, and that was when it was the Redbox. But I'll take your advice and give them the benifit of the doubt from now on.

Got standing tickets this morning but it's lookin really messed up for the 18s bar thing. I think if you wanna drink you have to buy an upstairs ticket and stay there and the ground floor standing tickets are all ages, no alcohol but over 18s cant go upstairs for a pint if they have a ground floor ticket :\

i've emailed them again and I'll post the reply here

Just got mine. Spent a good 10 minutes trying to decide which floor to be on. Can't say I support this system. Would be much easier to have the under 18's on the balcony. Either way, being on the ground floor won out for me, (and my gf) in the end. Alcohal isn't that important, right???

Look forward to seeing that reply...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 Queen_Tallulah

Yeah, I got ground floor tickets too... but I dunno where my friends' tickets are for
It'd be crappy if we were all split up. I'm not planning on drinking anyway, no way am I gonna risk not remembering a second of this gig! :D

What's the story in Ireland with the wristband system (to prove you are over 18) when you produce ID at gigs. Is that a valid way of going about things? It would be nice to see that implemented at every gig for the young'uns.

Also, do bars/clubs need a license to have kids in a venue where alcohol is being served?

wouldn't it have something to do with that rule that kids can't be in places that serve alcohol after 9:30???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

Yea. After 9 (I thought it was) they can't have anyone under 18 in the venue. Unless there's no alcohal being served. That stops them from having wristbands for over 18s. ie, people could still buy alcohal for the scamps. But there's nothing stopping them from having the ground floor bar open and anyone under 18 upstairs. Makes more sense really.

I asked if ya had ground floor tickets could you show ID and have a drink upstairs and the reply was:
If you are drinking you will have to remain upstairs, otherwise you can go downstairs, but you won’t be able to take your drink with you.
    All grand so :)

    Cool.

Just listening to the new album now. Not too bad.

I think it'll be pretty much like <snip> where you have free reign if you are over 18...

So any word on the support for definite?

No it's not, I emailed mewuthoutYou to find out cos their not listed here and they said they're not playing the Irish date. According to the last POD mailout the support for this hasnt been decided, expect a generic Irish filler band

I missed this - was it any good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

They played for nearly 2 hours, and the setlist was fairly cool. (All of Deja Entendu, if I'm not mistaken) But I don't think they played very well. Though I suppose it was just the vocals that I didn't like. Either way, it was a good night. No support, so it ended in time for me to go onto another gig.
