You guys think it will be possible to get solid state hard drives in 2.5" SATA format at any stage in the future?

Will this mean super fast booting and better performance?

    just curious.

    Thanks.

They are actually being made ATM; I just don't know where to get them.
But yes, booting would take a few seconds, while battery life is extended by up to 50% IIRC. Performance would also easily be better than "normal" drives.

Now, the only problems it faces are storage size & cost...

    Check out http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=2480

According to benchmarks about twice as fast boot time and blistering read /write times.

But regarding the actual running of the machine .. it just might be overkill - and probably not worth it. ..

Oh if you do wanna buy one ... check out http://www.simpletech.com/oem/zeus/

The main thing is that the technoligy is there and is coming along. Its nice to know that its possible to get them in 2.5" SATA, for our macbooks etc.

I guess right now it makes more sense for desktops though, where someone can have the OS boot off a small solid state drive, which seems to be the only affordable option at hte moment.

... Only prices I saw where 4Gb for... $500!!
I forget, but wouldn't that exclude Windows & OS X installs?
