Right I just found this http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130160
I am in the process of trying it at the moment but it seems that it works on both windows xp and media center. I will post how i got on.

works grand small few errors pop up every so often but seems ok.

Just been using it again. went a little funny and wasnt showing any videos and also the encoding is not great quality there might be some tweaking involved

just edited some settings and its looking perfect now.

Works perfectly even though I had heaps of problems with XBMC this is a good work around the problems.

    great thanks!

Im gonna give it a try when i get home.
Ive been having a bit of trouble with it.

It seemed I had it set up fine but when I tried to connect from the 360 it would not recognise a pc connect enabled PC.

ill give it a shot again when i get home.

I might give yiz a PM if i have any problems.
    Is that cool?

    Thanks

I posted this a couple of days ago. It does work very well with TVersity for me, but there are some quite annoying issues which should hopefully be resolved once it has been fully implemented and is no longer a beta.

Does this help in streaming to the 360? I've never been able to get it to work.

Yeah funky it works. I've been using it since I found it last night. As kyub said there are still some issues but it works.

Yup, my videos are cutting short too and a lot of them are cutting short very close to halfway through. This has been reported on their forums and is one of the only issues they haven't addressed yet. :( But still, this is the only option available that will transcode/stream at the same time and it'll be great when it's been finished!

Yeah, easy if you have Windows MCE or Vista Ultimate edition. I was talking about streaming/transcoding from a Windows XP machine. ;)

What sort of spec do you need to do real-time encoding from an XP box? Im imagining it would have to be pretty high, no?

This also begs the question, if you have such a high spec machine, why not just play games on it and throw away your 360?

My 360 is by far the most powerful machine in the house (3 3Ghz cores ffs) and im supposed to encode media and stream to it! Madness.

Also, is real time encoding HD xvid possible?

    "system requirements for TVersity:

    - Pentium III 700 Mhz or better (Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz with support for Hyper Threading is recommended)
    - 128 MB of memory or more (512 MB recommended)

As you can see, the system requirements are fairly minimal. These are the requirements for streaming non-HD content, around the resolution of 400 x 300 pixels, with bitrates up to 300-400 kbps.

If you want to up the ante, a Pentium 4 2.8GHz with support for Hyper-Threading and with 512 MB of memory is recommended for real-time transcoding of standard definition video - WMV 720x480 1.5Mbps."

From Monkey's link, doesn't exactly sound like a gaming beast.

True enough, I might give this a whirl.

Link says you need a fairly top end box to do HD though. Still seems a waste to stream to the 360 instead of using its own power. Why take two bottles into the shower?
