Raise much more preflop, much more on the flop. As played fold.

    Thanks for the help guys,
I'll raise more next time. Hectorjelly, what would you have raised it to preflop? Perhaps 5 x BB?

In the end, I folded and another guy went all in. River was another 9, and it turned out both had A x and split the pot with pair of 9's, A high. Both chasing a straight on the river.

I just need some reassurance that I did the right thing because I felt stupid after realising what they had. In the long term, wont these decisions will make me more money than not. Ended up finishing second.

with 4 people in the hand I and 4 to a straight on the board I expect to find a 10 here pretty much all the time hence as played fold.

You do not want to play a multiway pot with PP's as a flop is more than likely to hit your opponents the more opponents in the hand online raising 5x the BB is more likely to thin the field.

On the flop you have a draw heavy board but with a set. The set aint without value the only hand you are likely behind is A 10 as Q's or K's are raising pre so > pot it and make anyone pay to out draw you

I always seem to have trouble playing JJ preflop, as I always fear that the chances of an A, K or Q hitting the board on the flop are pretty good (enter MUPS) and thus I don't raise as much as I really should.

While we are here, another quetsion.

I'm sticking religously to the 20 x buy in for my STT level which is currently $10. I'm now at $320 and I'd like to try out the $15 STT, as my bank roll now permits this. But I'm not sure if I should move up or keep playing $10 tourneys (after 90 $10 STT, my ROI is 50-55%) in order to work on my game. So should the bank roll and ROI determine whether I move up, or how confident I feel? Is there much difference in skill between the $10, $15, and $20 tribeca STTs?

Thanks for all your advice guys!

Move up when you are comfortable doing so. Bankroll requirements are meant to be used as a minimum guideline for when you can move up. If you would prefer to play a set number of STT's at the lower level, say 200, before you move up then do this.

I doubt though you will find much difference between $10 and $15 STT's standardwise.

There is a fair chance that one will hit the flop which is why betting more is more likely to get rid of Ax Kx types of hand

I played a few STT's at 20+2 and 50+5 and found neither of them much different to the 10+1 stt's on Tribeca*

*Stupidly small sample however so take with a pinch of salt

I play on tribeca and made the jump from 10's straight ot 20's and theres very little difference but after about 50-60 stt's at $20 my ROI was in the region of 35-40%, its now around 20% after about 200 or so, so its hard to tell on smaller samples because your ROI can jump dramatically with a bad run or good run with a small sample so you wont really know your true ROI until you play a couple of hundred STT's, but youll probably have moved another level at that stage. Im just about to make the jump from $20 to $50 in the next day or two so it will be interesting to see how i find that.
