    ive the scart one with optical out and sounds great but picture is not any different than the one provided. If you have a hd tv you can get a hd cable for the xbox that will give you a great image.

    hd cable eh? think i'll have to look that up. plugged the xbox into the new 32" lcd last night using the av cable that comes with it and it looks absolutely terrible. Couldnt play anything on it.

    would it be one of these i'd be looking for?

    What inputs does your TV have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,228 ✭✭✭Scruff

    * HDMI input, VGA input, Video (RCA) input
    * Component input (RCA)
    * Stereo audio input (RCA)
    * 2 SCART connections (full\half)

    Have a 5.1 sound system but it doesnt have optical in.

    Kristok, it the Aldi tv i got yesterday, i see from the thread in the Bargins forum that you got the lidl one.
    Tyring to put the t.v through its paces to see if its work keeping.

    A standard PAL Xbox won't output over a component lead. The RGB cable in your first post will give you the best image unless you have a modded Xbox.

    Hi Scruff, I posted a similar question about a week ago looking for a HD cable for the xbox, apparently they're not being done anymore and even if you could get your hands on one they're only for the US or chipped boxes.
    I'm currently using a scart with optical out that I got a couple of years ago from Game, I think it's a game own-brand one but it looks great on my HD t.v.

    cheers lads. Have been thinking about chipping it for the last year or two but still havent got around to it so i'll go with the scart option for the time being.
    Do ye know if it will work in the half scart or does it need the full scart socket?

    Half scart? :confused:

    Full SCART is used for RGB connections.

    Ciaran500, some tellys have two SCART connections, one half and one full. Half ones aren't fully wired.

    Ahh, never heard them called that.

    The "half" scart socket will give you the exact same image as the cable you are using now.

    will the component cables display the same as the scart on the standard pal xbox? with only one full scart on the tv i'd like to be able to plug the dvd and xbox in at the same time and the dvd needs the full scart too...i think :confused:

    I'm not sure if it works on a PAL Xbox, google should tell you ;)

    But the image you get from it will be pretty much identical to a RGB lead.
