    Hi,

    I'm looking into building a HTPC possibly based on the Zalman HD160 case. A question I wonder if anyone can help me with is...

    This case includes a re-branded MCE remote. I'm aware that when you buy the remote separately you get the IR receiver which also functions as an IR blaster to allow you to for example change channels on your Sky box.

    My question is do you get this functionality with the zalman case? Or is that IR receive only as the IR is built into the case?

    /Zith

    Or is that IR receive only as the IR is built into the case?

    That is how it comes out of the box, there is no external IR blaster that can control STB's.

    the remote and ir that come with that zalman arent mce compatible are they?
    they need software running to work.

    you can buy usb ir-blasters but i think getting them work effectively with each other is going to be a minefield.

    that combined with trying to set up mce to even recognise them and youll be better off buying the office mce one and concealing the receiver inside the case

    The actual IR and remote are MCE compatible (it is actually the MS remote with a Zalman sticker on it).

    The problem is the IR sensor is built into the VFD display in the case so it has no external connection for the IR blaster hence it is only useful in scenarios where you are not using a set top box for the TV signal.

    {Frankly for all the trouble Zalman went to you would have thought they would have engineered a solution to this}
