I did a search but got no results, so apols if this has been covered before...

Got NTL broadband and I want to have PC and Xbox connected at same time - is it possible with NTL to run a cable from their modem to a router and then have two cables running from the router to the PC and the Xbox?

    Thanks in advance

    It sure is.

You'll probably need to open a few ports on the router though. I can't think of them now but you should be able to google them.

edit: its ports 88 and 3074

Probably should be, no reason why it shouldn't work, but I don't have NTL so can't say with complete certainty.

I have Digiweb Metro and a Netgear wireless router. Up to 3 PCs are on the wireless at any one time in our place, with the xbox connected by cable to the router.

A simple router should work if you just want to connect a PC and an Xbox to it using cables.

Thanks for the help - think there's a spare router in the office, will give that a try to see

Yep you'll fine. Have nearly the exact same set up as you (my pc is connected wirelessly though).

It sounds like you just ntl installed which is a shame, as they tend to give out free wireless routers on request. You could have asked and im sure you would have got one, thats what i did:p

Anyway it'll work fine and you can easily use both at the same time, so long as your not maxing out your connection downloading something on the pc;)

Oh yeah make sure you get a cable router, not an adsl one.......

Thats my exact setup. Wire goes from NTL broadband modem into my LinkSys wireless router. Then one wire goes from the router to the xbox and another cable from the router into my pc. Its really simple. Dont think I had to open any more ports either

this is certainly possible , i have the same thing at home

one thing to note when you hook up the router to your NTL cable box dont forget to reboot the NTL box. it wont work until you do because the NTl box bridges to the first device that it see's and wont talk to anything else until you reboot it. MAC addresses and all that jazz.... :)

Cheers folks - giving it a bash when I get home tonight (there may be a bit of a detour to pick up an xbox 360 involved as well, but, well... we'll see, maybe the original one will tide me over til xmas...)

Firstly, if you have any wireless security, you will have to provide the Xbox with the key.

And check to see if your NAT is open, will see this in the Test Xbox Live Connection screen.

its not letting me get as far as the NAT, it stops its test after the 2nd line and comes up with WIRELESS NETWORK - NOT CONNECTED but it shows that it is connected when i go to network settings...and input the wep key...

as for ringing ntl, it says if on your/their website that for connection to xbox live call the support number...
do you think its not ntl's problem, they are my internet provider...

    Yes they're you're INTERNET provider.

The issue is not with your INTERNET.

    Do you use MAC filtering?
