Norton Ghost is spooking me out.

I ghosted a laptop that I want to copy to an identical laptop and it seemed to burn to DVD just fine (2 DVD's total). I'm trying to ghost it onto the other laptop now and it's giving an error at the same point saying there is corruption at that file. There doesn't seem to be a way to skip the file, it just ends and prompts me to save an error txt file to a floppy, but I don't have a floppy, so I click escape and then nothing happens :(

It's wiped the OS that was on this laptop now and the other laptop is out of the country now so I can't just ghost it again and retry.

Any help would really be appreciated!

Have you tried copying the image file from the DVD to your hard drive to see if the file is alright? You may have written it on low quality media and the file might have gotten corrupted. Try to get an Ubuntu Live CD and use that to copy the ghost image file to the laptop's hard drive. Then use Norton Ghost and tell it to use the image file on the hard drive. The image file should be on a different partition. Not on C drive which I presume you want to ghost.

thanks for the reply. I just tried copy it over now and it does seem to be the DVD that's the problem. I got a cyclic redundancy check error when trying to copy it:(

will Ubuntu Live CD help with that or is there any other solution?

    :)

I've experienced this problem before when imaging a bunch of Dell PC's via DVD. Some of them just had crappy DVD ROM drives that would fail during the reimaging process. I swapped them out with known good ones and all was well. (I tried burning several copies of the image dvd etc, to no avail)

If you're getting a CRC error though, your disc is shagged.

But it's probably only a few files within the image file which is a pain that because of these corrupted ones on the disc, I can't ghost anything :(

It's definitely not the drive as far as I know because it's having trouble copying on the laptop I want to ghost to and my one here (just copying the ghost files to my hd to test it and they wont copy)

    :(
