Sky+ Playback problem

Playback was been very poor - jerky etc etc - about two months ago. Called Sky and was talked through a Full System Reset. Cleaned up the hard disk and all was well for about 6 weeks. Same problem back again. Almost certainly the hard-disk is bunched.

So I called back Sky yesterday who informed that a callout from an engineer would cost €100  as my warranty had expired and I don't have extended warranty. Slightly odd as if the harddisk is finished and the customer has to pay to get it fixed and doesn't, the customer is then likely to cease Sky+ subscription, which will cost Sky more money in less than one year.

I do want Sky+ functionality back so what should I do next? Get a new DIY Harddisk kit or pay Sky? Anybody in the same boat in the past and can offer advice. If buying a new harddisk, can you also recommend brands/websites to go to?

    TIA
    Jolly

If you ring SKy and tell them you are cancelling the whole thing, because of the cost of repairing ,and going to NTL.They will put you thru to the cancellation department follow it through to the end and they will quite often offer to do repair FOC or give you half price for a period of time.If they do let you cancel there will be a cancelation period of 30 days .Just ring up again and restart it .You have nothing to lose.

I've had a similar issue. I bought the Sky+ box on ebay. It worked fine for a few months, but then reported that Sky+ functions were unavailable. I did the full system reset & that got it working for a couple of months, but when the mains failed a few weeks back the same error appeared.
This time it only lasted a day after the reset, so I think the disk has finally given up the ghost. I assume that since I bought it on ebay there's no chance of Sky agreeing to repair it (or would they know?).
I'm seriously considering buying one of the 250GB upgrade kits on ebay (the extra capacity would be great). The only fear I have is the possibilty that it might not be a faulty disk. The last thing I want is to end up with 2 good disks & one faulty decoder.
Any experiences others have had with the same errors & the disk upgrades would be appreciated. If I get one of the upgrades, I'll let you know how I get on.

I had the exact same problem with my SKy+ boy, jittery playback and then the problem sky+ functions not available problem.

I bought a 250Gb Hard disk from Xtendedplay
I then used Copyplus to copy the recording from my old sky+ disk which was on its last legs.

I haven't looked back since, my Sky+ has been operating perfectly and the extra recording capacity is only fantastic, the only problem now is I wish there was the ability to organise your recordings in the planner as when you have a 250Gb HD you usually end up with alot of recordings because you don't have to delete them as quickly.

I ordered a 250GB disk from xtendedplay (very good to deal with & prompt delivery) & installed it just before Christmas. It's been working fine since & the extra capacity is really great (at last we can use the series link regularly without fear of running out of space).

Glad to hear its all working fine for you now. The only problem I have with the new 250GB HD is that I now have too many recordings in my planner, I wish Sky introduced a way of sorting this of filing them into folders etc....:)
