Calling stations are killing me!

The usual mix of decent players, muppets and calling stations in the SE last night.

    Hand 1: I have 250..Murat has 600.

Blind raise to 7 UTG, 5 callers…I have JhJd in the SB and make it 55. UTG(Turk) calls as does UTG+1(Murat)

    Flop is Kc6c5c

I check, UTG goes all in for 80, Murat bets max (400). I muck.

Turn and river are blanks…UTG mucks and Murat turns over…………Kh2d

    Hand 2: I have 220..Murat has 700

2 limpers, I have KK in MP and bet pot (10)..2 callers.

    Flop is Jx8x3x

    I bet 35, 2 callers…Turn is Ad

I check, Murat bets pot…fold, fold and he shows A7

Hand 3: Blind raise to 5 UTG. I call from the button with Q9

Flop is 2 6 Q…checked around (I check because I don’t want to bloat the pot. If I bet from the button they all call anyway!)

Turn is J…Murat bets 25, Mick calls and I call.(I’m happy to call any raise because I’m sure I’m ahead. Mick and Murat will both call a reraise with overcards so I’d rather win a small pot than lose a big one)

River is 9..Murat bets 100, Mick calls, I’m all in for 200 (the only hands I’m behind to here are 108 and K10) Murat raises to about 800. Mick folds. Of course Murat has K10.

I don’t normally play hand 3 in that way. I’d lost 2 buyins because of suckouts and was down to my last 250. I decided to try a different strategy for this hand and thought that calling here was better than raising in the situation. If the 9 didn’t come, I still call the 100 bet which Murat makes regardless of whether he hit his hand or not.

How do you play against an opponent that’s unable to fold top pair, overcards or draws because at the moment its seriously –EV and tilting me big time..

Having the same trouble myself at the moment. Thats the problem with televised final tables and new suckout poker players. It's very frustrating. For instance, button has been raising my BB all night with A rag all night and I know this, so eventually he pushes all in for 20k, I have 63k, blinds 1k 2k and I know he has A rag. I look down and call with AK and guess what yes he hits his 3! What the hell do you have to do?

You're just angry and bitter as a result of some beats. When you start seeing some sense, you'll realise that you want these people calling €55 bets preflop with K2o and calling pot size bets on the flop with ace high.

Now to the bad beat sticky with you!

BTW Who's Murat? Is he the guy who looks like Michael Jackson?

continue to play your winning game - this is just variance. don't let the suckouts get to you

you need to play against guys like Borat all the time!

    Hi Flushdraw

I think your change in stratgy is for hand 3 is exactly what is required, just try and get to the river a cheaply as possible get stacked when you know you are infront. You were just ul in this case. He would have called you AI on the turn anyway if you pushed by the sounds of it.

Calling stations drive me wrong - but sometimes you cant blame them when they keep getting so fking lucky - on a different night you would of cleaned them out - not that that makes you feel any better

    now im on tilt

Exactly, in the long run, you know yourself that players like Murat will pay you off - only played with him a couple of times, but i'd rather play against him than you.

    If that's a joke it's slightly funny.

Tony played hand 3 horribly which I'm sure he knows.

I can handle suckouts in tournaments pretty easily, but its the suckouts in cash games that get to me. I've no problem folding hands like K10, KJ, Q10etc but when you know that theres 3 or 4 others that are calling raises with far worse and that the hand you folded would have taken down a huge pot, that gets to me on plays with my head.

I know you need players like this in the game, and i've tried 2 or 3 different strategies with them, but when you get a couple at the same table, you have to dodge the good players bullets and the bad players bullets while trying to get the maximum from your hand. I really cant find a winning formula to play in this situation.

I'm calling myself lucky when my set of aces hold up, because i'm them to get busted, so i'm not betting confidently. Is there any decent books out there that deals with getting over bad beats, tilt etc?

BTW Ian, Murat is the big bald Turkish guy that always sits in seat 8 and pulls out €500 notes like they're going out of fashion! Nathan is the MIcky J lookalike

Thats what you'd expect but lately its not happening. I try to get most, if not all of my money in the middle when i know i'm in front. This tends to mean that when i get sucked out on, its usually for all or most of my stack so its a big hit to take.

It takes a lot of rebuilding to get back up and then youre faced with a decision (well in fairness its not much of a decision) to bang your chips in the middle again when youre infront, only to find another river killer.

I could win 30 hands, lose 4 and be down 600-700.

not the hand Ian - just the change in strategy.

It has worked well for me when dealing with calling stations

Does he look like a human anvil if so i think i know him. I think i know the 'other Turk' too, the one who bets 25bb's pf. When the BB gets a walk the 'other Turk' cant help saying to the BB player 'Haippy Chriestmass'.

I played with both of them in the last SE 200 tournament. Full tilt american guy in a massive pot went all in on the river and Murat from silent all game imploded with rage as even though he had a hand he realised he played it wrong and couldnt call. The female dealer was terrified. Murat eventually folded and the 'other Turk' says to the anvil 'Perheps hee was bettink his missed flaish'?. I said to the 'other Turk' "Are you trying to make him feel happy"? and he goes mental on me "Enough Enough Enough now from you, Enough" in full voice!.
