I got SkyHD installed last week.
Whenever i try to record something it fails. The message i get is "no signal".
The disk is 100% free and i am having no problems watching anything.
I don't want to ring SKY as i have no telephone line (If i ever do need to ring do i just say my phoneline is down?).
    Any suggestions guys?

It sounds like the tuner for recording is either not receiving any signal from the dish, or the tuner is faulty.

Go to Services, Option 4, Option 6. You'll see 2 signal meters, 1 for each feed. Both should be "Locked" with at least 50% signal Quality.

Check the connections at the back, make sure a wire hasn't come out or is shorting (braid touching inner centre wire).

yeah you're right, there is no signal on input 2. Input 1 is at around 70% strength.
When the guy was installing it he told me there were 4 cables up in the attic and he had no way of identifying which 2 were from the sitting room (yeah right:rolleyes: ). He must of only got one correct cable and assumed he had the right two without properly testing.
    I will call him back.
    Thank you very much.

He'd no way of telling which two came from the sitting room? A cheapo electrical multimeter would figure this. Just short the 2 wires downstairs, and then test in the attic for the two cables that are shorting!

Less sensible (because you run the risk of shorting the cables and possibly frying the power outputs of the box), but possible woudl be to test the cables while HD box is on, only 2 are going to be carrying voltage (unless of course you've a masthead PSU downstairs too but that could be switched off).

Yeah i told him i had a meter he could use but he said he thought he had it sorted.
I might just fix this myself tomorrow as they could leave me waiting. I would be just using a screw-on connector though as i have no crimping tool.
He also seems to have buggered off with my HDMI lead though and i'm using one i bought for something else now so maybe i should ask him to come back.

    Amazing.

Here they have a rogue's gallery and scare trainee installers with it. "If you do anything like any of these things you're history!"
