BIOS Problem - agpCPQ.sys

So, I bought a new PC. Imagine my excitement as I take it out of its packaging, set it up, start it for the first time ... and it doesn't work. Won't boot properly.

It takes me to that black screen where I have to enter the way I want windows to boot (safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last know good config, normally). So say I hit go into safe mode.

It loads a load of drivers, but gets stuck on aqpCPQ.sys. And won't go any further. Starting normally takes me to a black screen with nothing on it, and nothing happens - its completely unresponsive.

A little net research seems to indicate its a problem with the BIOS and the graphics driver, or something.

So I'm trying to update the bios settings so that it boots from the CD (to reinstall windows) - and I can change them fine. However, when I go to save the changes to CMOS and exit ... it won't let me. It just hangs. Doesn't do anything. I have to pull the plug (Which I don't like doing). The Y/N option just flashes and doens't actually save.

    Any tips? Advice? HELP?

Yeah, I saw that before, but sadly I can't seem to get the PC to boot from the disc. I can't get the BIOS settings changed to set it to boot from disc.

Hanging in the bios isn't a very good sign.

Run Memtest+ if you can to check the RAM (disconnect the HD if you have to so it will skip that and boot to CD).

If the RAM gets the all clear I would attempt to clear the CMOS and re-seat any components on motherboard/double check all cables etc.

(of course if the warranty is void if you open up the PC then don't do any of the above instead get onto the seller and tell them it isn't working out of the box)
