Thinkgeek Order Question

Just ordered a few xmas bits from thinkgeek, got a confirmation of order and an email requesting I send a copy of my name & address off a recent phone bill or something to ensure bill payers address is correct.

Now my question is - is this normal ? Has anyone else ordered from thinkgeek and got this request ? It seems to be from a legit email address but i'm a bit odd about the whole thing as this has never happened anywhere else I purchased anything ?

Can anyone else confirm is i'm being over paranoid or is everything not as it seems ?

Its not uncommon for that to happen, a lot of UK etailers use this as a method of verification and since Thinkgeek are based in the US, I don't think this is a problem.

Sweet, thanks Ruu. Was just a bit wary of it because I hadnt seen it before. Must go root out a bill now.
    Thanks again.

Happens regularly with US sellers, and sometimes with UK sellers too. A bit annoying, but nothing to worry about.

I must have been lucky, I ordered off them a week or two ago, didn't get asked anything like that. Glad I wasn't too, I wouldn't have bothered with the hassle!

They probably select some customers at random. Maybe they're obliged to?

Just an update to anyone else who may encounter this problem -

Sent them two photos of my name and address appearing on bills (Vodafone and VHI bills)

Got an e-mail saying that these werent accepted

Sent an email containing pics of my name and address on my driving licence and also a pic of my c-card (with my fingers covering everything except the name, type of card and last 4 digits of the numeber) along with an explanation of how Ireland only uses area codes in Dublin so that was why there was a place called "NONE" in my address.

    Got the following e-mail
Thank you for your prompt response to our request! We have received your documentation and have verified your account. Your order is currently processing and you should receive an email when it ships. You should not need to provide documentation on future orders made from this account. If you have any further questions, please let us know, and thanks for choosing ThinkGeek!

So thanks to all who replied and helped get this sorted.
