Every year on 2fm Larry Gogan plays the first christmas song on the radio, usually in the first week of december, Apparently Gerry Ryan went and broke the tradition thats nearly 25 years old, i'm a little bit pissed off about that, larry is like a national treasure, you shouldn't mess with him,;) boo gerry boo i say:D

so i was wondering, does anybody listen to Gerry Ryan and what do you like about the show?

    Asked and answered here...

Yes, he played the Beatle's Christmas song. To add insult to injury he was plugging some damn compliation of "his". If I were Larry, I'd be getting out the voodoo doll and the knitting needles.

I hope he gets a rap on the knuckles / kick in the balls for stealing Larry's thunder. If he wants to do it after Larry has gone to the Great Microphone in the Sky (not for many years yet, I hope, I hasten to add), fair enough, but he shouldn't have upstaged Larry like that  :(

I have to say JR I never ,well once or twice a year ,listen to Ryan.

While understanding your sense of affront to Mr Gogan, personally I couldn't give a flyin f**k who plays the first Xmas record on RTE, or if anybody ever played an Xmas record on RTE.

Whole thing(Xmas) is totally overhyped and only serves to whip some people into a sense of hysteria which we are all heartilly sick of by mid December.

I won't lose any sleep over it,neither should you.

i won't lose any sleep on it, don't worry. i just think it was bad form to break tradition and try and steal the thunder as yakuza put it,

As for being sick of the hype by mid december i'm actually sick of it by mid november thanks to the shops. i was in dunnes getting my lunch today and they're playing christmas songs, it's the 21st of f'in november, sorry it's off topic

If Gerry wanted to stall Larry and his Christmas custom, all he needed was to steal Larry's oh so obvious script. The man hasn't uttered an original line on his show in years, and his textual fumbling is as obvious as a five year old reading from a secondary school textbook.

Let's not confuse nostalgic affection with RTE's refusal to turf out the chaff a la BBC Radio 1 some while back.

He's overdone. I'm no fan of the self obsessed-ubiquitously wrapping his chops around his breakfast on air-Gerry Ryan, but his fluency on air compared to Gogan (and the likes of Duffy next door) makes him look like a free-styling rapper in full flow compared to Pat Kenny attempting an emotional interview on the Late Late.

Isn't Lillian Smyth on maternity leave?

    Larry Gogan is God, imo.

Larry's on right now on the Ryan show - plugging the Bejowled Wonder's (henceforth: BW) new compilation CD.

He seemed gracious enough, acknowledging "Times changing" but it seemed like a little pathetic cover up of the BW's travesty of a sham of a mockery of Larry's tradition.

I reckon one of the other stations beat them both to it somewhere.

But yeah - by the time Christmas actually comes, everyone is sick of Christmas songs.....I did a shop promo at the end of November (their timing) and it was great to hear some of the songs again, but by Christmas Day the good was gone from it...

Imagine if there was a song for St Patrick's Day and everyone started playing it at the start of Feb.....
