Is there such a thing as a converter for this?

Does you're laptop have an S-video port?

To check, look for a port around the edge of your laptop thats round and looks like one these:

There's usually one on a TV as well, so just buy an S-video cable from an
    audio-visual store. (sometimes called S-VHS)

... on how new the television is.

Most older models, you're very lucky to even have SCART. In which case you need a VGA/Scart convertor. VGA/SCART are different signals, so generally this is not a small piece of hardware. More than likely talking about a box. Lots of wiring diagrams on google if you fancy having go at it yourself.

If your TV only has an analog RF input, best thing to do is print out the file onto coloured paper, and sellotape it to the screen.

you can get an s-video to scart cable and you should be able to see your desktop on screen but it depends on your graphic card.

i got this far and no further.

Also S-video to scart may not work properly if your TV can't interpret S-video signals.

Anyway saving you too many details, can you tell us the name/make of laptop you have and approximately how old it is? Same for the TV. Then we should be able to tell you how to connect them.

Some laptops are know to have this type of port too:

If so, you're laughing. Almost any TV built from 1990 on will support this.

If you have the port on the right in the attachment above, you do have an S-Video port.

If you have a SCART cable or AV (Red, Yellow, white) connection on your tv then you can get equipment to display it on your TV.

I have the cable myself for my Dell. Works fine but don't expect to be able to read text.

If your plan is to use your TV as a monitor then you will be stuck with a resolution of 640 X 480 and won't be able to realistically use it. If you got a new HDTV, you'd be able to avail of higher resolutions but you probably don't want to do that.

Anyway it is okay for watching movies on your TV and thats about it with S-Video. Playing computer games is okay with it too.

Hi my Acer has the S-Video type line in, 7 hole outlet. I imagine I can use this as a line-out if I use a 4 pin plug. ???

Also I'm a bit puzzled if I line in from say a camcorder I presume I would need some kind grabber app on latop to handle input. Just got a new cheap CRT TV and notice that it has an input menu option for S-VHS. I thought this was an option only on top-end TV's.

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦
