Hist on verge of collapse

3 officers, which ones I haven't been told, have told the Auditor that they're resigning en masse tomorrow night!!

Anybody know who the three are, or if the Auditor might resign instead? The GMB is full of rumours!!

I'll believe it when I see it. Sounds like a normal day in hist-land to me.

Who's this year's Auditor? (in a different country so not really up to date with college affairs...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

    James O'Brien

Edit: That link also describes how Auditor of the Hist has become a 'sebattical' position. Ahem.

There always seems to be internal bickering going on in the GMB, I don't think it's really of interest to many people beyond those involved unless they're resigning because of something really scandalous!

    Seconded.

    It's just one society.

I think the title of this thread is a tad hyperbolic. The Hist isn't going to collapse because a couple of people resign. It might have a difficult week or two trying to cover the work that these people did, but they'll have elections, new people will get the positions and it'll be back to same old same old. Same goes even if it is the Auditor that resigns.

What's the story with him anyway? Why are so many people against him?

James is a Nice guy, Why people think its going to colapse i have no idea.

I have tried to ignore most of this stuff but this one is ridiculous. There is not going to be mass resignations. The only "controversial" thing that is happening is that the Auditor, James O' Brien, has put an amendment to The Laws 'on-notice'. The Amendment can be viewed here. Essentially, the Amendment would create two more Ordinary Members of Committee (MCs) to assist the Auditor and Officers in performing their duties. So that the whole Hist membership can have a say, a Private Business Meeting has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday so it can be discussed and voted upon.

That's it really. James wants to make a change to The Laws of The Hist. But the membership has to approve it (well, those who vote upon it). People should stop listening to all these ridiculous rumours. People within The Hist aren't against him. It's just a small minority ('The Agent' par example) who just want to spread some mud and undermine James for no reason other than spite. The Hist is not 'on the verge of collapse'. It's membership is higher than last year, attendances have been very good, it's won an InterVarsity already, had the Minister for Education out twice, is holding a huge party in Citi Bar tonight, runs highly succesful debating workshops and has a fuuny AND sexy Record Secretary. :p

So, no mass resignation. Just a proposed law change. God the truth can be boring.

Oh, as for the spelling, yeah. Darren might need an English grind. Still, you have to love the Bond Party posters. They feature 'Plenty O' Toole'. Legend. :)

So, there we have it. Either Bart Rock is hopelessly out of touch, or this thread is bunkum. i reckon the latter to be the case. Bart is always in touch ;)

Here you, less of this shortening of my name. You at least need to buy me dinner first... :p

P.S. Yes, this thread is bunkum.

P.P.S. Back to work you. You have students of forty-nine college/institutes of further education to represent. Chop chop I say! ;)

Bartley's got it wrong I hear. I asked Will O'Quill and his denial was about as well-hidden as his erection through his opened zipper.

But tbh I still couldn't care.

That is the oddest remark I've ever seen on these boards.

Ibid has been carefully cultivating an intriguing sense of humour these past few months. If it's not immediately apparent from posts such as the one above, you have to bear in mind that he's a right-wing, Blueshirt economist and as such, all efforts, no matter how small, should be appreciated :D

Only joking Ibid, I thought that was high-larious.

    New low? :)

Just for the record, Will's zipper was either closed or unnoticeably open at the time I saw him, and I highly doubt he was erect.

Thats quite funny cos the last time a thread went up btiching about the Hist and talking about the Treasurer resigning, it was started by Veritas as well. Why you would feel the need to spread malicious gossip is beyond me but whatever your problem is why don't you just take it up with someone in the society
I doubt most people care, and if three officers resigned, it wouldn't be the end of the world, its happened plenty of times. 5 resigned at one stage.

Ibid, that is one profoundly f***ed up image you've given me there.

And I'll concur with the majority of posters here, this endless Hist speculation is getting out of hand.

While I'm pleased to see you've obviously sat in on one of my classes on "framing", Cathal, I do not see how you can, with any credibility, call the post you refer to "bitchy".

It was speculation, and pretty tame stuff as well, albeit boring and highly ill-advised ;)

And given the apparent truth of it, I think the title was pretty accurate. If somebody'd painted this picture for you at the start of your term, I think you'd have called it a collapse. So I think that's a little disingenuous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭SOL

Listen if the GMB can burn down while the society is in massive debt and people resign, and the hist still survives it would take more than some resignations to make the Hist collapse, infact I doubt even if a comittee gave it there best efforts they would be able to make the hist fold.

Also, do you ever wonder is this tension is entirely a fiction? I mean what ever actually happens in the GMB that is bad other than people saying bad things? Which poeple construe as badness, which leads to tension even though nothing has really happened?

You are never to talk to me again. That is one disturbing thought.

And its either Quill or O'Coill, depending on how insecure he happens to be feeling about his idenity on the day the question is put to him.

As for the matter at hand, I believe the focus has been baring down so heavily on the Hist this year because of the excellent work being done in the Phil. Daire was on the news today, for Christ's sake! Usually the GMB rumour mill would have two societies to bitch about, but seeing as how everything is seemingly hunky dory in one society, the other is being over-scruitinised and and over-criticised.

    Whatever happened to proper English???

    "Mmh"???
The use of multiple question marks is not proper English.
    Whatever happened to proper English???
    See above.
And I only support them cuz their rich
"Cuz" is not a recognised word and the use of "their" is incorrect, you should have used "they're".
