I've been looking at Sony DSCW50, it has 3x optical and 12x digital zoom. It's 221 including delivery from Pixmania or 245 from Jessops in Dublin city centre.

Here's a link to a great site for camera reviews:

I have an S7000 and its a great camera, it has a 6x optical zoom which is pretty good, Im thinking of selling it, if you are interested send me a pm.
Also check out www.dpreview.com, its a great review site.
I presume you know only look at the optical zoom numbers, digital zoom is always crap.

the kodaks are about €200 ( no memory) and have 10x zoom and all sorts of shutter and aperture priority stuff to override the automatic modes. The flash indoors is not up to the zoom but its a great outdoor camera
