I'm not sure how they define Nite Running, the comment I got from Veolia is "The late nite trams will run every 1/2 hour after the scheduled last tram of 00.30am". I wonder if this means right through the night.

Edit: Nite Running appears to mean up to 02:30 from the the outer terminii (Tallaght / Sandyford) and 03:00 from the city centre.

they didn't run last year, I doubt they will be this year. It would require some sort of initiative in the part of Irish Rail....

    Cork Christmas Park and Ride

Bus Éireann will operate a special park and ride facility this Christmas in Cork, enabling shoppers to access the city centre quickly and easily by means of a high frequency bus service from County Hall. The service commences tomorrow Saturday Dec2nd and will operate every Saturday and Sunday for the Christmas period.

The service is operated in conjunction with Cork City Council and Cork County Council.

A spokesperson for Bus Éireann said: “It is estimated that the park and ride took thousands of cars off the road last Christmas and we hope that even more people will use it this year. The service is fast, frequent (every 15 minutes) and goes direct into the city centre. The provision of additional park and ride facilities will also be of huge benefit in helping to reduce congestion and improve traffic flows in Cork during the Christmas period."

The following are the details of the operation of the County Hall Park N’ Ride for the Christmas period from County Hall, Cork to South Main Street and operating to the County Hall via Frenchs Quay, Sharman Crawford St. and St. Finbarrs Bridge.

    Dates of Operation:
    Saturday & Sundays 2nd & 3rd, 9th & 10th, 16th & 17th, 23rd & 24th and 30th & 31st December 2006

    Times of Operation:
    Saturdays: 09.30 to 18.15 hours - 15 minute frequency
First bus to depart County Hall at 09.30 hours
Last bus to depart from South Main St. at 18.15
Park & Ride site to be opened from 09.00 and close at 19.00

    Sundays: 10.30 to 18.15 hours – 15 minute frequency
First bus to depart County Hall at 10.30 hours
Last bus to depart from South Main St. at 18.15
Park & Ride site to be opened from 10.00 and close at 19.00

Fares: Car Parking is free and the following fares will be charged on the bus: Adult €3 return, Child €1.50 return, Family €5 return.

The Bus Stop at the County Hall will be at the same location as last year, opposite the entrance to the Multi Storey Car Park with buses entering the grounds from the Carrigrohane Road side and exiting onto Farranlea Road. Passengers are set-down and picked-up at South Main St.

    Black Ash P&R Christmas 2006

The Black Ash Park & Ride will also operate on ALL Sundays in December 2006 i.e. 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st December 2006 to facilitate shoppers (The usual Mon to Sat service will, of course, also operate).

Black Ash Park & Ride Sunday opens from 10.30 to 20.00 – the first bus to town departs at 11.00 hours, last bus from town departs 9.15, on Sunday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st December (off peak frequency)

Other than Sunday opening the P&R will operate as normal with NO service on 25th & 26th December and 1st January 2007.

Park and rides have been hailed by environmentalists as a key part of the strategy to reduce levels of traffic on city centre streets. By reducing the number of cars entering a city, they also help reduce levels of noise and air pollution, also improve road safety for cyclists and enable the re-use of city centre road space for the benefit of public transport and other road users such as cyclists. For customers they provide a cheaper alternative to city centre car parking.

Christmas Park and ride to cut congestion in Galway.

Bus Éireann will operate a special park and ride facility this Christmas in Galway, enabling shoppers to access the city centre quickly and easily by means of a high frequency bus service from Ballybrit.

The company was awarded the contract to operate transportation for the park and ride by Galway City Council, after last year’s successful pilot initiative.

A spokesperson for Bus Éireann said: “It is estimated that the park and ride took up to ten thousand cars off the road last Christmas and we hope that even more people will use it this year. The service is fast, frequent (every fifteen minutes) and goes direct into the city centre. The provision of additional park and ride facilities will also be of huge benefit in helping to reduce congestion and improve traffic flows in the city during the Christmas period."

The park and ride facility opens on Dec 1st and will operate until and including Christmas Eve, Dec 24th.

Buses will operate between the race course at Ballybrit and Fair Green in the city centre every fifteen minutes throughout the day. Buses will operate from 7.30am to 21.30 Monday to Saturday and from 11am to 19.00 on Sunday.
