    heres the story, the local cable company are upgrading their lines outside my mates house, they want to run new cables across the front of his house and mount a splitter box on it,in return they have offered him free rental as long as their equipement remains on his house(he has anoluge basic package)
    anyone else got a deal like this with their cable company?should he push them for a better deal? digital maybe?

    I think I remember someone posting that NTL offered them the same. Maybe have a look around here and see if the thread is still there. :)

    They'll only offer a freebie on the analogue. If you start pushing for free digital etc they'll just go ask someone else.

    My brother-in-law just got this offer from NTL last week in a house he rents out and got 3 years free basic and 1/2 price basic for life after this in his own house.

    I got him to try and push for broadband but the initial offer was free for 3 years and then they went 1/2 price for life after. But were definately showing no interest in offering the upgrades as part of the deal

    They are obliged to pay you for life for cable crossing, and indeed susequent householder.

    But indeed ask for too much and they will find an alternate route.

    :confused::confused:

    Most houses on an overhead system have cables crossing the house anyway.
    If you want the service you've got to take a cable across your house. Upgrades going on atm are replacing old for new so there may already be a cable in place which rules out the above.
    It's the "splitter box" that's the bargaining tool here.

    @sohappy Are there any cables on the house atm??

    the house is on the end of a row of 6 houses,,they want to replace the existing cables,,and they want to put a splitter box which will supply cable in 2 other directions to 2 other blocks of houses..

    If I was you i'd try too push it to at least digital. Make up some story how your children or something will miss the space & cartoon network will make it up to them.Bet you €10er it will work:):):)
