I see Urbus has added a GPS tracker to their web site. Nice little touch I think.

    http://www.urbus.ie/default.asp

Click on the "live position" I just right clicked and opened it in a new window.

Thats deadly:D . Wish Dublin Bus would add one, I'd have hours of fun with that.

After the praise I gave Urbus yesterday the bus was almost 30 mins late this morning. Whats the point in having a tracker if its not going to show on time !

Excuse my ignorance lads/ladies but what good is it if you are standing at a cold, wet, windswept bus stop waiting for a delayed bus? I can't imagine anyone at Dublin Airport etc. whipping out their laptop to check when Urbus is due unless their is a monitor with a live feed at each stop.

Could you check it out on a PDA?

Well when I left my house this morning the bus image showed it was in Blanchardstown village. I was standing at the bustop (@ the Blanch shop center) since 7.20 till 7.50 and still no show. Yet the other buses seemed to be getting through Blanch village with no problems.

I thought it would be a good idea as I knew then when to leave my house to catch the bus.But as you will see on my other post I was standing at the bus stop for ages waiting.

How do you know how long it took other buses to get through Blanch village

I presume you do not think that Urbus parked up in Blanchardstown village for 30 minutes just for the crack or that they are falsely reporting GPS signals for the crack.

Are you sure that the bus you checked was heading in the right direction for you

My suggestion is that it is November and that Traffic is ****e it gives you a small insight into how hard it is to operate a bus service in this city when it takes a bus 30 minutes to travel such a short distance.

I presume that Urbus tought that if they had an online tracker customers would see that they had the buses out there and that the delays were out of there control.

Perhaps they should have spent the money on a helicopter.

I knew cos my girlfriend was on one of the buses that did go through and I was speaking to her on the phone.

Yes I am sure It was the right bus as there is no other bus coming from Castleknock at that time.

    I presume nothing as I haven't a clue what happened !
I have been getting this bus for just over 2 years now so I know the general patterns of traffic for certain times of the year.

Should be handy for when one of their drivers goes mental in Inchicore :D

Did the bus your Girlfriend was on follow the exact same route to the point were you where as the Urbus does.
If it did then perhaps the Urbus had some mechanical problem or it disapeared into a time warp for 30 minutes
If it did not then you are comparing apples and oranges

Perhaps you should have phoned Urbus and asked exactly what the hold up was.

BTW did you think that a GPS device would make it immune to traffic delays It still drives the same route and can be held up by the same traffic the GPS device will not make it go any faster or indeed slower

 I think you may be confusing bus companies. Urbus does not go near Inchicore! That was the company based in Rathcoole (can't think of it's name at the moment).

    Edit: Dualway! :)

I found out what was going on. A driver explained this to me this morning. Basically he was was in Blanch village going towards Castleknock to turn around and come back and do the route when he got held up in Castleknock.

I must have seen the bus in Blanch village and assumed it was heading towards the Blanch shopping centre as there was no other bus due to come in that direction until at least 45 mins.
He said since they have the bigger bus on that route in the morning that he cannot get through the traffic as quick and that he has to wait in places for drivers to let him out where as before with the smaller bus they were able to nip out quicker.

Oh I did ring Urbus and the security guard informed me the driver left on time this morning and that there was no other staff in the office !

Of course i didn't think GPS is immune to traffic delays.

Not funny. I think an apology is in order.

Speaking of apologies, I think the OP owes one, because he wrongly assumed the position of the Urbus, and wrongly slagged them off.
Someone even pointed this out to him, yet he still disputed it.

I might have wrongly assumed but I cannot confirm that. That was just a guess on my behalf.

And as the driver said he was stuck getting into Blanch. as his bus was much bigger then he was used to so he was stuck in the same postion for a time until there was a break in traffic. Which I think is fair enough.

Now i'm confused, earlier you said he was stuck in Castleknock (tho that post was a bit confusing) - now it's Blanch. Yet you claimed your girlfriend had no issues on the bus thru Blanch:confused:

Then read it again !!! I said getting into Blanch not in Blanch !!!! Thats why my girlfriend was able to go through Blanch. with no bother.
