NEC drives are fairly reliable I believe. That one at Peats looks fine too. Link

SATA optical drives seem pretty rare at the moment, but I had to get one due to most new P965 motherboards having only one IDE port, but I have to say I'm very happy with the one I got from komplett: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=326440
Samsung SH-S183A 18x. Supports DVD+/-R/RW dual layer, DVD-RAM and comes with an OEM copy of Nero 6.

Id prefer a IDE Optical drive because the ports are scarce on my board.

Is there a performance increase with SATA Optical drives?
