    Woops,
I've just deleted the Registry entry for HKLM/Software...

    I'm on XP.

I haven't rebooted yet but looks like I can no longer launch apps..
    How can I recover the HKLM/Software ???
    Should I reboot?

Is there a tool to get the last known or something. My machine was turned off all weekend so maybe there's a saved version somewhere on the disk.

I'm pretty sure System Restore fixes the registry, you can restore it to a particular point if you have it running. Guide to it here.

    that's didn't work.
The restore requires a restore point, in my case it couldn't even load it up.
I tried the restore from the F8 screen, it failed to run..
    I've had to repair XP.

What's the correct way to backup your registry? I see there's a Backup program on XP, I think this saves your info to somewhere on the HD which you can access from the Recovery Console (from the XP install CD)..
