Devoy Barracks in Naas was where the Army Apprentiship school was based, and where a huge hotel and appartment complex stands now days.
It was a great opportunity for lads to get a trade of the highest quality training. Is this type of training no longer available or is the school sited elswhere.
Perhaps someone here will know the answer or even remember the school.

ASAIK they no longer run apprenticeships every year and instead much prefer to give apprenticeships internally.

i.e > Join as a private, then apply for an apprenticeship.

Although AFAIK means feck all cause i really have only heard this third hand.

Trained soldiers apply for apprenticeships nowadays. The DF ran a competition earlier this year for apprentices but I don't know if they actually took any in.

I'm an apprentice with the army and I can tell you that they still recruit from the civilian population. Apprenticeships in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics are highly sought after internally but they are taking in loads of mechanics over the next few years. If you call the competitions section they will be able to tell you when they are taking in more apprenctices. Currently Mechanics are being trained in the TVMS in The DFTC also Ordanance Apprentices are being trained by their school in The DFTC also.

Lads a little bit of common sense wouldn't go a stray when you are looking for information on this sort of thing all you have to do is go to the DF website and look in the careers page and it has the advertisements for all the competitions there.
