Go early and they'll be handed out in the queue outside

Do they do that at all the gigs in the Point these days? It makes sense. Luckily I've avoided going to a gig in the Point for a fair few years, last time I was really pushed about getting into the pit I remember it involved a mad dash across the venue to get to the barrier... very unfair/inefficient system.

Yep, it's pretty standard now that the wristbands are given out in the queue before anyone enters the venue, stops the rush

Excellent. I used to hate "the rush", especially when it was up to the security guys as to who they gave the bands to, even if you were first to the barrier you weren't garaunteed a band. Ah.. so things do eventually improve.

If past gigs are anything to go by, the pit in the Point sucks. Anyone caught moshing of fighting in the pit are thrown out. The pit(s) outside the official pit are excellent, tho security did come in to break them up.

Untill <snip> came on. Then they stood well back

Depends on the gig and the band really. Blink 182 had people queuing since 11am, whereas Green Day was much the same. On the other hand the Velvet Revolver line moved quite well and I dont think people were queuing all day. I used to work security in the Point, and sometimes we were told to lock the gates and tell people to go away, sometimes we were told that people could come into the courtyard and sit down.

How early do you have to be to get into the PIT at the point ?

Depends on how popular the band is and the age group they attract, if they're real popular and attract teenagers with nothin better to do than queue all day then you're lookin at the queue starting at noon. Else 4/5 is pretty good

Is it just me, or is it only in Ireland we seem to have the enclosed circle type pit at big concerts? Is it not time we switched to the T style pits that are used for festivals like Download, Big Day Out for the larger outdoor gigs (30,000+ attendance) and not bother with a pit for venues such as the point.

Maybe us Irish cannot be trusted with such a thing or something.

yes, because moshing and fighting is dangerous, nothing wrong with having a bit of a laugh with friends or whatever, but when it gets out of hand, people get hurt, or killed

well ive been to the point loads... every time i get into the pit.

only once i went early to get the "wristband".

basically there are 2 enterances to the pit, left and right... you "need" a wirstband to get in there...

    this works for me:
    • Dont bother queing, go 30 mins before doors.
    • Since your to late for a pit pass, try and walk behind people who DO have passes, try the left enternace first. chances are they will ask you where it is, and tell you to go away. (if not, well, then your in. always walk fast and dont look nervous!)
    • If you didnt get in, wait till the lights go out, NOT for the support band, wait till the main band comes in.
    • The second the lights go out, walk towards the right enternce and walk in. they are always sound and let a few people in, they dont bother checking anymore.

      also try this

    • get a receipt or any color paper that is sort of like the pit passes on the day, and wrap it around your wirst. then walk into the pit pass proudly showing your home made pass.
    enjoy the gig!

    wow, your an honest chap

if you want a pit pass and dont want to be a cheating bastard in the process, arrive early

A girl was crushed to death at a Smashing Pumpkins gig back in 96 in The Point. . Im sure there are more informative links but this one is interesting because I think its written from the view of a fan at the gig.

The pit system was implemented to stop this happening again. Also this is why security are pretty strict on things like moshing and crowd surfing and people sitting on shoulders etc.

Everyone loves to be at the front but I get pretty annoyed when I see these threads talking about how to circumvent the system especially when they are about The Point. Sure you can argue the legislation is too strict or not strict enough and you being in the pit wont make a difference but if something happens and you are in there when you shouldnt be then you may have to live with that decision.
