    Hi all,

My wife, one year old son and I are thinking about visiting friends of ours in Sydney next year for a months holiday. My major concern would be the length of the flight for my one year old son and the jet lag factor among other things.Anybody ever done it?

    Thanks

Flew to Sydney about four years ago. Broke the journey up with an over night stay in Singapore. Didn't feel too bad at all really.

A friend of mine did it a few times and never had a problem. I think that one year olds sleep enough that the jet lag shouldn't really be a factor.

    Hi,

I know a few people that have flown to Oz with young kids. By next year your son will be 2 so too old (I think) for a cot/basinett that they give to younger kids where they can sleep flat hence making them more comfortable. Its completely doable and I would not stress about it. I will be doing it next year too with 2 kids. You can break up the journey if you like with a stopover...........I have heard of people giving their kids phenergan or actifed to make them sleep but personally I'm not into that. Loads of new crayons and books and toys...............and loads of patience!! Try make sure that you get an evening flight from say London so that your son will be in his nighttime routine and hopefully he will sleep for 8 hours or so. I think as far as jet lag goes - i'm sure the adults suffer worse than the kids!

Yeah, they cry loud at takeoff and landing and you can only hope that there's not too much turbulence in between :D
